Our tour guide, Leroy, was pleasant and informative. He told us interesting facts about each place he took us. We saw everything promised and more.
Once we got to Mt Vernon the tour took a turn for the better...our tour guide/driver was questionable. He wasn't professional however once he dropped us off at Mt Vernon and we were on our own all was good. Mt Vernon is grand there's plenty of history to see and learn about. Oh also, the driver's van was raggedy we weren't sure if it would survive the 5 hour tour. I will give this tour 5 stars because Mt Vernon is worth seeing however the tour guide/driver is another story.
Personable and helpful tour guide. He gave our group the option (which we voted on) to cut an hour off of our Mount Vernon visit if we wanted to see the Air Force Memorial. That Memorial was great to visit and something that we would not have done if not for our tour guide,
Good tour - probably even better since it was one of the few things we were able to do during the government shut down. Guide did a great job.
Great driver, very friendly and informative. Mt Vernon well worth going to. It was raining when we went but would be great on a sunny day. We missed some things due the weather.
This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Leroy, described the buildings along the way, stopped in Alexandria for us to see Christ Church and the Lee House, and made an extra effort to get us through the mansion in the same group. He was very knowledgeable and helpful.
This is the only trip that doesn't force you to have an 8:00 AM start time. We spent plenty of time in Mount Vernon to see everything we should have seen. Rob is one of the absolutely most knowledgeable DC tour guides anyone could find. He is also well-traveled which gives him a cutting edge above all others. He gave a lot of tidbits about the sites we past all throughout the bus ride which made the trip very pleasant and passed the time without even realizing it. He even provided bottled water if we needed it. Great trip! Great Guy! Great Guide!
This was a really neat tour to go on. It is a site that everyone will enjoy, and is really not to be missed.
A good tour. Old Town tour was not memorable other than drive down Kings Road. Mt. Vernon was awesome and guide provided good insight. It rained on our way back and guide actually returned us to our hotel rather than starting point, a very nice touch.
We enjoyed this trip very much, but seriously regretted the fact that it didn't leave an hour earlier, Mount Vernon has so much to explore, but we only had time to go round the house and the tomb before we had to race back to the coach. I would also have liked more time in Alexandria. The driver/guide was very knowledgeable and the fact there were only a handful of us on the tour made it easier to follow the commentary, and contribute some questions.
We enjoyed our trip through Old Town Alexandria. Our guide, Bobby, made it a very entertaining ride with lots of comical lines and also Tons of history. He clearly loves his job and it shows. The van was a bit cramped with 11 of us on it, but our driver talked the whole way to Mt. Vernon and the time was memorable. Mt. Vernon was beautiful, if you have time take the guided tour on Slave History (45 min.) with one of Mt. Vernon's guides. It was wonderful and literally brought you to tears by the end. You take a guided tour through the House only by the Mt. Vernon guides. Your Bus guide does not take you through Mt. Vernon at all, so you are pretty much are your own except for the house tour. The web site is a little misleading about this. All in all it was a worthwhile trip and money well spent. Our driver brought you back to wherever you wanted to go in DC on the way back. Since it ends by 4 pm we were dropped off at a museum instead of our hotel.
This was a surprise...we were not expecting to be the only two people in an SUV heading to Mt. Vernon. Our guide was informative, very polite and paid a great deal of attention to our personal needs. He clearly enjoys his job and had a good bit of information about the area. The "tour" of Old Town was adequate, with a quick stop at the church and a drive-by tour of a couple of other points of interest, but nothing spectacular. Once you are at Mt Vernon, the tour is conducted by the official MV tour guides and then time on your own. You are basically paying for the drive out there and back, plus your admission to Mt Vernon with your booking - We had taken a taxi to the departure place, but our guide was more than happy to return us directly to our hotel. All in all, we were quite satisfied.
The trip to Mt Vernon with our driver was very good - and it was great to see the old town of Alexandria on the way to Mt Vernon. However we only had 2.5 hours at Mt Vernon, which not nearly enough time to see the excellent film, as well as to view the house (there were queues) and the estate, let alone other offerings there.
This for me was aonce in a lifetime visit to Mt Vernon. Unfortunately, I left with a regret at not having time to visit the whole estate even even at a fast trot, let alone in a leisurely manner.
I suggest you make it clear in your promotional material that the actual time at Mt Vernon is only 2.5 hours.
I enjoyed the Mt Vernon site. However, I would have liked to spend more time in Alexandria. Going to one pub frequented by George Washington was not enough. Alexandria is a beautiful area, and I feel I did not get my money's worth there.
