Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Wellington's Lord of the Rings Half Day Tour. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
We had a great time. Our guide was really excited about us seeing all the aspects of the tour. As we toured the sights where they shot scenes, Mike (our guide) showed the scenes on his iPad and pointed out exactly what part we were looking at and what elements of the scene were digitally added or shot somewhere else. I don't know if that's standard on these tours but I thought it was great. I felt the best part was Mike's knowledge and excitement about the material. It would be easy to have a guide who just brings you somewhere and shows you the sights, but having someone who obviously enjoys the subject and enjoys what they're doing makes all the difference.
Nathan (he was an elf!) was so nice and so much fun. We only had the half day tour in Wellingotn which is really beautiful. I wish we could have taken the whole day tour. Weta workshop is cool but they should make it bigger to see more of the props from the movies. I think they are working on it.
The experience was amazing, the tour guides were very well presented and very informative , my children loved the whole experience and didn't complain once. NZ was breathtaking and will definitely be going back and doing this tour again. Thank you heaps for making the trip a memorable experience.
The tour was fantastic! We had a blast with the others in our small group and Paul was such a great guide and full of knowledge about Wellington and all the movie goss :) highly recommend this tour. Naomi and Harley
Great!!! pity I should've get the full day tour which includes a tour to Rivendell.
Our tour guide Emma, was wonderful. Although our ship was late docking, Viator provided us with our own tour. We had an excellent time and Emma was very knowledgable and helpful. We would definitely use Viator again and would recommend them to our friends.
From pickup at the ship to the return trip the half day tour was full of facts and information from out knowledgeable tour guide. Visiting sites where the Lord of the Rings was filmed was amazing and our tour guide showed us film clips of the actual sites. Wetta Studios was also a very impressive place to visit.
A fun 1/2 day tour, pickup from cruise ship easy, tour guide very entertaining
Met at the cruise terminal with no problem. Really enjoyable and interesting tour with an enthusiastic guide. In a group that was a fraction of the cost and size of the one organised by the cruise line we were visiting Wellington with.
Great tour. Our guide Emma was very informative. Weta Caves was amazing. Highly recommend to any LOTR fans.
Great tour and tour guide. Really enjoyed the view from Mt. Victoria of bird-view of Wellington, film location of Lord of the Ring, and also the Weta Cave trip. Awesome.
We were greeted by very friendly guide named Mike, although it was a rainy morning his enthusiam for the subject of the Lord of the rings tour was great. Being in a small group was also good, as at each site visited we could gather around Mike as he showed us vision on his ipad of the location as it was in the movie. There was also no other crowds at any of the locations. We enjoyed the morning tea supplied and fresh muffins. I would recommend this tour to anyone else visiting Wellington, as you got to see some lovely parks and a trip to the top of wellington's lookout, great views.
Great tour. Very interesting. Beautiful contryside. Outstanding guide.
AWESOME!!! Todd was a great guide. Loved every minute -- rain was the only downer.
We had a very knowledgeable and an excellent personality. The tour itself was just amazing, it gives you a behind the scenes look at how creative ideas made the movie. Planning on doing Hobbitown and South New Zealand LOTR tours in the near future.
Very good tour guide. I was a little disappointed that the sites used were far from what was depicted in the movie, but that is not the tour's fault at all. Overall a nice and relaxing tour that highlights scenes and places where LOTR was filmed on North Island.
It's a great tour. We've seen so many beautiful sceen in the movie. My daughter and I enjoyed very much.
Great experience and the guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable (about the films and about general stuff around New Zealand).
If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, this is the best tour for you. We were taken to different scence to expose the locations of the movie and how they were used for the movie. We were also told some interesting stories on movie stars.
Absolutely terrific tour if you are a Tolkien LOTR enthusiast.Great guide interesting sites and good value....highly recommended.Even the tea break was done with style and quality
Our tour guide was GREAT! He was really into the film, the locations, the camera tricks, information galore! Our 4 hour tour lasted 5.5 hours because he was so excited which we didn't mind at all. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name but he is married to a Japanese woman.
