How to Spend 2 Days in Accra

How to Spend 2 Days in Accra

With some planning, two days is plenty of time to immerse yourself in Ghana’s capital, and check off some more distant highlights too. From market tours to mountain biking, here are some options for optimizing your time in Accra.

Day 1: Adventures in Accra

Morning: Begin by familiarizing yourself with Accra on a city tour. Full-day excursions eliminate the stress of planning your own itinerary, while half-day tours allow you to personalize your schedule. Both usually include round-trip transportation, ensuring hassle-free transfer among dispersed city landmarks such as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Jamestown Lighthouse, and the W.E.B. DuBois Centre.

Afternoon: After a waakye lunch from a street vendor, head into Accra’s suburbs or markets for a glimpse of daily life. From museum browsing in East Legon to souvenir shopping in Makola Market, you have several immersive options. Guided tours help you find your way with ease, and provide tips, insights, and translations.

Night: Gastronomic evening experiences, such as cooking classes, are a fun way to unwind over traditional dishes and pick up new recipes, away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. Otherwise, keen revelers can spend the night exploring the clubs and bars in hip Labone or popular Osu.

Day 2: Greater Ghana

Morning: Widen your perspective of Ghana on a day trip from the capital, taking advantage of round-trip tours to easily access more distant locations such as Cape Coast and Volta. Whether you’re a wildlife watcher, mountain biker, or culture vulture, you have plenty of options.

Afternoon: Most day trips continue into the afternoon and include hotel pickup and drop-off (though not always lunch). If you find yourself back in the city with time to spare, make your way to Labadi Beach to catch the last rays of the day and first vibes of the night.

Night: As night falls on Labadi Beach, the party starts. Kick back in a beachside bar with a sunset aperitif, then spend your last hours in Accra dancing to live music or DJs. Or, stroll over to Osu’s night market for dinner.
