Running from Amsterdam Central railway station to Dam Square, The Damrak is often called the "Red Carpet" of Amsterdam. For it is the first site, in all its bustling glory, that visitors see when they exit the train. The Damrak, as the ...

December 2016

Luckily we had read a review written by someone else or we would not have found the shop where we exchanged the voucher for our tickets. They are at Damrak 26 and are called Tours and Tickets. The bus company are not allowed to put signs up at their stops so it was hard to find some of the stops including the starting point.
There were not enough buses on the Saturday and Sunday that we travelled around early December 2016 On Saturday afternoon some people were not allowed on the bus to return to the city as it was full even though there was plenty of room for passengers to stand downstairs. They had to wait until the next bus. On Sunday morning the first bus was supposed to arrive near our accommodation stop 10 at 10.25 am but did not arrive until 10.45 so it was obvious that the first bus from the city leaving at 10 am was the one that we eventually boarded rather than another one starting at a half way point. On Sunday though the same rules about the number of people allowed on the bus did not apply and passengers were allowed to stand.
Purchasing tickets for the IceBar on board saved money when we got there so that is definitely worthwhile.

We were able to board the canal tour directly across the road from our hotel and the stop for the bus only 3 mins walk away.We found the commentary very informative and the skipper on the canal boat was hilarious as well as knowledgeable. It was very easy to pick up our tickets at 26 Damrak and the young lady was very helpful and supplied us with lots of brochures etc.I wou7ld recommend this tour to anyone coming to Amsterdam even if they have been before.

The E tickets were easily exchanged by a very helpful man in the 20 Damrak office. He rightly advised us to book an evening slot at the Ice Bar, so as to have more of an atmosphere, which it did, we had a great fun experience, somewhere different to visit and excellent value for money with the 3 drinks included.
The weather was lovely and sunny for our canal cruise, so we wanted to sit outside, as the roof on the boat we were on didn't open. The down side, as we found out was, for some reason there wasn't an outside speaker, so we missed most of the commentary. But, it was good to see Amsterdam from another angle. I would imagine an evening cruise would be a good experience on another visit, as most of the bridges are lit up. All in all a fun day, well worth the money, a great experience we really enjoyed, and we would defiantly recommend this package to friends and family.

The tours were good although getting the tickets in Amsterdam were tricky as we didn't realise there was only one office where you could do that. Eventually directed to the right one after lots of misdirection. Loads of tours and tickets offices but only one on damrak does it so read your paperwork
