Shoal Bay Tours

Shoal Bay
Anguilla is an island of beautiful white sand beaches, and Shoal Bay may be the best of them all. The beach’s beautiful surroundings and calm waters—ideal for swimming—have made it famous around the world. Visit to lounge on the powder-soft sand and enjoy the turquoise waters.

The Basics
For many visitors to Anguilla, a trip to Shoal Bay is high on the priority list. The beach is divided into two areas—upper and lower Shoal Bay—and you’ll find the majority of beach bars and amenities (like sun loungers and umbrellas) in lower Shoal Bay. Enjoy some of the island’s best snorkeling, then head to Gwen's Reggae Bar and Grill, a Shoal Bay institution, for a meal of lobster or barbecue ribs.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Local outfitters rent snorkeling, parasailing, and scuba-diving equipment.
  • Some guided tours that stop at Shoal Bay offer snorkeling equipment.
  • There’s limited shade at the beach, so remember to bring sunscreen and a hat; you can also rent a lounge chair with an umbrella.

How to Get There
Shoal Bay is located in northeastern Anguilla. The best way to get around the island is by car or taxi; there is no public transportation. Anguilla has a small airport, but most international flights to the region arrive at and depart from nearby St. Maarten. Ferries, speedboats, and local flights take visitors between Anguilla and St. Maarten.

When to Get There
High season in Anguilla is mid-December to mid-April, when the days are hot and sunny and all the bars and restaurants on the island are open. From May–July the weather can be very hot. June–November is hurricane season, and some businesses close for the duration.

Visit Prickly Pear Cay
For a luxurious take on a desert island experience, join a full-day boat tour to the Prickly Pear Cays, located off the coast of Anguilla. You can lounge in the sun, go snorkeling along coral reefs full of wildlife, and enjoy a barbecue lunch on an unspoiled white sand beach.
Address: St. Martin, Anguilla
