Taphophile and tombstone tourists aren’t the only ones that fall in love with Austin’s Texas State Cemetery. A beautiful open space with numerous notable Texans buried in the ornate tombstones and mausoleums erected here, the Texas State Cemetery is as much a walk down history lane as it is a visit to sacred burial grounds. Take a free tour over the manicured lawns and wandering stream and learn about the lives of Texas most prominent men and women, as well as a few tales of bravery, Texas loyalists, and even a Wild West story or two. Notable monuments include the Tennessee Native Sons and the 9/11 memorial.
The Texas State Cemetery is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and free to the public. It is located on 909 Navasota Street, Austin, TX.
