Banff National Park Tours

Banff National Park
Within the boundaries of Banff National Park lie some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes. The park, which showcases Canada’s Rocky Mountains in all their glory, offers world-class skiing, hiking, biking, and outdoor attractions. It’s a year-round haven for day-trippers from nearby Calgary and for international visitors galore.

The Basics
There is so much to see and experience in Banff: lakes, rivers, mountains, caves, wildlife, hot springs, museums, the gondola in Banff Town, and more. To make the most of your time, a guided tour will help you hit the highlights and get a more in-depth look at what interests you most. Many multi-day tours from Vancouver take in other Canadian Rockies spots, such as Lake Louise, Jasper, and the Columbia Icefield; some tours comprise evening wildlife safaris or horseback-riding adventures; and day trips from Calgary offer a taster of Banff’s beauty.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Banff National Park is a must for nature lovers, outdoors enthusiasts, wildlife lovers, and all first-time visitors to Alberta.
  • There is a fee to enter the park.
  • Bring your camera—the scenery is spectacular for photography.
  • Much of Banff Town and most Parks Canada sites are accessible to those with limited mobility.

How to Get There
Banff National Park is located on the Trans-Canada Highway, 78 miles (125 kilometers) from the nearest airport in Calgary, Alberta. Tourist shuttles and buses travel between Banff and Calgary. Another popular route is the scenic Icefields Parkway, which runs 179 miles (288 kilometers) between Banff and Jasper national parks.

When to Get There
The summer months (June to September) are peak season in Canada’s mountain parks, and things pick up again in winter (November to March) for ski season. To avoid the crowds, spring and fall are best; however, ice and snow may limit accessibility to hiking trails and lakes, and some attractions are open seasonally.

Banff Hotels and Lodging

From full-scale luxury to basic and budget-friendly, the hotels and lodgings in Banff National Park have something for every traveler. Many tours arrange stays for you at comfortable hotels, or you could join an outfitter for camping and adventure under the stars.

Mount Fay & The Neil Colgan HutClimbing

LIKELY TO SELL OUT

Mount Fay & The Neil Colgan Hut

This is one of our favorite trips. Never lacking in character, this trip has it all. Passing the shores of Moraine Lake we hike into a Basin below the face of Mount Bowlen. Endless 4th class quartzite and 5 pitches of technical alpine rock (up to 5.6) give access to the Fay Glacier above. From here we weave in and around crevasses on the final leg of the approach to the Neil Colgan Hut, seated on the shoulder of Mount Little... and that's only the first day. Staying at the Neil Colgan Hut (the highest habitable dwelling in Canada) allows us to travel light and gives comfortable accomodation while on the program. The West Ridge and North Face routes of Mount Fay, as well as Mount Little are all accessible from the hut and will be our main objectives for the trip.

3-Day Mystic Valley Backcountry Tent Trip by HorsebackNature & Wildlife

3-Day Mystic Valley Backcountry Tent Trip by Horseback

It's a rare experience these days to be able to completely disconnect from all of the distractions of life and get lost in the backcountry. You’ve never camped in a place like this before. On this trip, you’ll venture deep into the secluded Banff backcountry and through the wilderness on horseback - walking in the steps of the First Nations and the founders of Banff National Park. At the end of a full day of riding and exploring, you’ll bed down in well-equipped tents with plenty of rustic Old West charm. Your camp will be fully catered and you’ll dine in the big kitchen tent on delicious, hearty meals. At night, you’ll gather around the glow of the campfire with your new friends and share songs and stories before falling asleep listening to the sounds of the forest from your classic canvas wall tent – similar to those used by the trail riders of Banff’s past. Please note that this trip departs on Wednesdays from late June to early September.

Eisenhower Tower

The ascent is more about a big day in the mountains than it is about hard technical difficulty. Graded 5.3, there are a few cruxes that come on the upper tier of the peak above the Goat Plateau that give the bulk of the difficulty. The peak is approached from Castle Junction on HWY 1A, along the trail to Rockbound Lake. The ascent of the peak is natually divided into 2 tiers the lower tier which is entirely 4th class and the upper tier which involves more technical climbing. We often climb via a feature known as the Dragons Back to access the base of the Tower proper. From here a series of long pitches interspersed with short-roped terrain give us access to one of the most asthetic summits in the whole of the Bow Valley. High fives and a few summit photos and we'll reverse the route and descend back down to the valley bottom.
