We asked our Barcelona Expert, Gloria, how she’d spend a one day tour of the best of Barcelona and here’s what she had to say.

City of Barcelona

Ascend Montjuic Hill for panoramic views of the city and harbor, and admire the 1992 Olympic Stadium before taking a panoramic drive along Passeig de Gracia for the best examples of modern buildings by Gaudi and other architects. Continue to La Sagrada Familia church for an external view of the city’s most famous building and then walk throughout the narrow and charming streets of city’s medieval Gothic Quarter with its imposing Cathedral from the 13th century.

Gaudi's Tour

Start at Park Guell and enjoy a magnificent stroll there. Originally intended as city garden, this universal monument is an enchanted world projected by Gaudi. Capture every detail and nuance of this whimsical park, including the undulating bench covered with fragments of ceramic tiles, the market place, and more. After a brief drive, you will enter the Eixample where the Sagrada Familia is located. From the interior and exterior you will be given explanation of this amazing temple, unfinished and unique in the world. To finish this Gaudi tour, we will continue to Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, two houses which have unforgettable façades designed in Guidi’s surreal style.

Barcelona and Picasso

This tour covers some of the highlights of Barcelona, like Columbus Monument, Catalunya Square, and Passeig de Gracia, the most elegant and chic avenue in town. Stop at the amazing Sagrada Familia and then head to the Museu Picasso. You will be introduced to some pieces by Pablo Picasso, one of the most important figures in contemporary art, and many of his painting, drawings, engravings, and ceramics will be explained to you in detail. The tour will finish with a walk through the Gothic Quarter.

Panoramic Views and Shopping

Depart to Montjuic Hill to the Mirador del Alcalde, a magnificent viewing point where you can admire the city's structure, coastline and harbor. See some of the Olympic venues like the Olympic Stadium and iconic buildings remaining from the 1929 Universal Exhibition. Pass along Passeig de Gracia to admire the finest examples of modern buildings by Gaudi and then continue to the Sagrada Familia church for an external view provided with descriptive narrative of its features. Next, it’s a short walk to the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, built on site of the Roman city. Finally, end at Catalunya Square, the favorite meeting point for locals and tourist, close to the Ramblas, the famous promenade where you will enjoy free time for shopping.

This tour takes you through some of the main streets of Barcelona to get to Catalunya Square, considered the heart of the city. From there we will continue on a panoramic drive along Passeig de Gracia, pointing out some of the masterpieces by Gaudi and others famous architects. Once we’ve reached Diagonal Avenue, we will drive to Montserrat, a natural park 45 km west of Barcelona to visit the Benedictine Monastery. Apart from enjoying unforgettable views and visiting the Shrine, you will admire the Virgin Patroness of Catalonia, The Virgin of Montserrat.
