Great trip, but a short tour. Our guide was awesome! Amazing views and if you could stay int eh are for a night or two I would recommend that for this. If staying in Munich plan on taking a 2 hour train ride each way to Fussen for the tour. Schedule the afternoon tour 2-530pm to allow enough travel time.
It has been a memorable experience to have chance to visit this castle, not to say the chance to ride on carriage downhill! Luckily we have booked the tour to save our time in queuing for the ticket and wandering around without guidance. Highly recommended for whoever visit Fussen for Neuschwanstein on their own but without any knowledge on how to visit the castle!
Awesome guide who met us in Fussen. Well worth the money, especially if you have parents or small children with you that aren't able to keep up. The van took us up a private road almost to the top, and carriage ride brought us down to the village. Great day
We enjoyed our tour with Florian. He gave us some good insight into the history of the castles. Our hotel was up near the castle, so he met us at our hotel instead of at his office, which is in Fussen. This made our arrangement much more convenient.
This is just what it says - a way to skip the lines. It was nice to have a bus take you to Marion Bridge, so we didn't have to walk so far up. We weren't picked back up, and took a public bus back to Fussen. If we had known that, we would have left the group and done our own thing.
The guide was pleasant and knowledgeable and good company. However, we did not get the horse-drawn carriage ride back to Fussen because of a bunch of tourists commandeered all the coaches. If you can't guarantee an inclusion, don't advertise it.
Also we did not get the leisurely stroll around Alpensee - as soon as we reached Hohenschwangau we were bundled into the car and returned to Fussen.
In summary, 6 out of 10.
Ok, so I am giving this two stars instead of one just because the castle is awesome. But the castle tour has nothing to do with the Viator tour. Right from the start it seemed something was off. One of the guides had her screaming baby with her and then dumped us on another guide who knew NOTHING. Peter took us up the hill, and the only "guiding" he provided was pointing at the path and then pointing at the two castles. It was ridiculous. Other guides were giving fascinating talks about the castle's origins, so we listened to them instead. Then the bus didn't show up to pick us up and take us to Fussen. The tour was supposed to conclude at the station by 1:00, and we had planned our whole day around that time, as we had another tour in the afternoon/evening. We ended up have to take a city bus to the station, which took forever. We missed our other tour due to the disorganization of this company and its employees. Major disappointment and a loss of money. This was our only bad tour of the entire trip.
