I just spent a wonderful evening walking through many nice neighborhoods in Beijing, from Wangfujing Street, past many colorful street food vendors with exotic food, through nice parks with tree-lined sidewalks, past the Bell Tower and Drum Tower Culture Square, and finally winding in and out the Hutongs that branch off from Beihai Lake, with beautiful sunset and night views of all the colorful shops, restaurants and neon-lit bars. My guide, Kitty, was charming and knowledgeable. She is from Beijing and gave me a great tour that I would highly recommend to anyone. I really enjoyed her company and stories, and the pace of our walk was perfect.
Doing what: Small-Group Beijing Night Walking Tour
The three hour tour ended up being only 2 hrs and 15min. We made our way into the city to the 2nd ring road at the request of the tour operator as our hotel was just north of the 5th ring road. The Olympic Birds nest was on the itinerary so seeing that it was close to our hotel, I suggested that they organise the route so that we end up at that end of the city, which would have made it easier for us to get back to our hotel. They ignored that request. I was annoyed to see that we went so close to our hotel and then all the way back the other way to the cbd.. I was not happy with the vehicle as it was not easy to see out of the windows. We could not get close enough to take any decent photos of the National stadium or Water Cube. I do not recall seeing any night market or Wangfujing. There was minimal strolling through the streets. Just rushed drive throughs. It did not meet my expectations at all. However, I must say the guide was very pleasant and informative.
