Margaret Island (Margit-sziget)

Margit-sziget (Margaret Island) is a magical little piece of heaven poised between Buda and Pest. Being there always gives you the sense of taking some time off from the real world. It's small - only 2.5 km (1.4 mi) long - but you'd be surprised ...

We did both boat tours. The shorter one in the evening, after dark - breath taking! The longer one in the day and took advantage of the stop on Margaret Island. Both well worth it - beautiful and informative. We like the longer routes of the hop on hop off bus - the ones that go out of the city core - you get to see stuff you can't see on foot. Right in the centre of the city - the bus is stuck in traffic all the time - better to see that stuff on the walking tours. The staff of this company was all very friendly and helpful.

Definitely worth the money. The bus takes you to all the best sites, or at least close by. There are several different bus routes and lines, that run continuously during the day, and some at night. There is even a boat routes that takes you to near by Margaret Island. It's definitely worth taking.100 satisfied.

We booked the half day coach tour for the first morning of our stay. The hotel pick up was great as, at that stage, we would have struggled to find any other pick up point.
The coach tour itself provided a great way to see they key landmarks in Budapest and quickly find our bearings, all before lunch on day one. It provided lots of background history and helped us plan an itinerary to make best use of the days we had available to us. Every minute of our time in Budapest was then used to the full.
A real bonus was the free tickets given out on the coach for the boat tour. We took advantage of this two days later and spent the full afternoon on Margaret island. It was a wonderful, warm, sunny October day and the trees looked magnificent in their autumn colours.
Well worth the (approx.) £23 each that we paid for this trip.

This trip gave a good overview of the city for a newcomer. Commentary was rather difficult to follow. Ticket for the boat trip was really thoughtful as we used it the following day and the trip to St. Margarets island was well worthwhile. There is some walking to do on this trip and visitors should be made aware of this. Taxi transfer from the hotel to the start of the bus tour but not back to the hotel afterwards.
