Though most visitors to Cairns are drawn by the beaches and marine life, the area is also home to rain forests and rivers that beg to be explored on a white-water rafting tour. Choose a half- or full-day tour, and enjoy an exciting way to experience the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Wet Tropics of Queensland.
Barron River Rafting Tours
Located about 20 minutes north of Cairns, the Barron River offers white-water rafting that’s suitable for all levels; no experience is necessary. Rafting tours typically include Grade II and III rapids, and take you through Barron Gorge National Park and past natural attractions like Barron Falls. Because of the river’s proximity to Cairns, Barron River tours are usually a half day, so you’ll still have time to enjoy other activities.
Tully River Rafting Tours
The Tully River is a couple of hours south of Cairns, so you’ll want to opt for a full-day tour to enjoy enough time on the river. Tully tours ride rapids up to Grade IV, providing a little more adventure while remaining suitable for most skill levels. You’ll navigate the river through Tully Gorge National Park, paddling through about 45 rapids on a full-day tour. Full-day tours often include lunch as well.
