Nine of us had an amazing day at the Aquila Game Reserve.
We had a glass of fizz on arrival, then a fabulous breakfast, then a three hour safari, had amazing views of some animals and not so amazing views of others, but as the animals aren't in cages you take what you get on the day!
My son did this trip a week before us, and his photos of most of the animals were fantastic.
Half way round the Safari we had another glass of fizz, then returned to a lovely lunch.
We sat by the pool until our pick up time to return us to our apartments! The elephants wandered down to the watering hole opposite the swimming pool!
On leaving the Reserve there were Baboons sitting on the road.
This was a wonderful tour with a chance to see all the key wild animals in a natural setting. The fact that the park is dedicated to healing and caring for animals illegally trapped is an added plus.
A brilliant way to see the big 5! Close by and inexpensive, good food, cordial hosts, and just fun. The day was wonderfully entertaining and educational about the animals. The ranger-guides-drivers are well informed and knowledgable. If you have limited time and a limited budget, this is a great way to see the South African wildlife.
Doing what: Private Tour: Wild Life Safari from Cape Town
A truly awesome experience. Wonderful memories. xx
The tour itself is two parts -- the 2.5 to 3 hour one-way drive from Cape Town is provided by a tour company in my case, it was Shark and Safari. The scenery is stunning -- do yourself a favor and stay awake to see it keep an eye out and you may see wild baboons. Once you arrive at Inverdoorn, the staff there take over, and once you're finished with your safari, your original driver will transport you back to Cape Town.
Now, about Inverdoorn. Please set your expectations accordingly. No, this is not a wild safari. However, this is a fantastic way to see African wildlife in a natural setting without trekking to far-off corners of the continent and having to endure the risk of malaria. Inverdoorn is a very large malaria-free fenced game reserve that did NOT feel like a zoo in any way. Their primary purpose is rescue, conservation, and breeding. It's obvious the staff care very much for the animals and believe in their preservation efforts.
The game drive is approx 2.5 hours in an open-air Land Rover with a cover for shade that holds 16 people plus the driver. Beware if you're very tall, you should request the front row or the very front passenger seat, as the other rows have very limited legroom. We saw the lions which are in a separate enclosure - they'll explain why, then in the main enclosure we saw white rhinos, giraffes, bonte bok antelope, Cape buffalo, zebras, gnus wildebeest, elephants, and the one cheetah. We also saw more cheetah in the separate rehabilitation enclosure they'll explain why they're there. Essentially we saw all the major animals except the hippos and oryx -- so it's not like everything is right there and guaranteed to be seen, it's the guide's job to try and find as many animals as they can for you.
The buffet lunch afterward was lovely and very adequate. Note you'll need to pay for your drinks on your own except for the 'welcome drink' when you arrive.
Overall a great experience!

Outstanding! This group is doing great work with the animals! We were So close up! We have Wonderful pictures! Kudos to the wonderful staff who prepared breakfast and our lunch. The best food in South Africa!
Amazing, although a game reserve with fencing, all of the animals had acres of space to wander around, for a day trip if you dont have to time to do a full on safari, this is it, be prepared to get up early though, 5.30am start from Cape Town City and camps bay area,

We were able to see the big 5 animals. We were so close to all the animals. The elephant walk was incredible. Feeding the elephants and having an elephant give you a hug was incredible! This was worth the money.
This is a great safari taster. We were only in Cape Town briefly on a cruise ship and it was great to be able to have a safari experience so close to Cape Town, in only one day. We managed to see all of the Big Five, even though the leopard was in the rehab centre at the time. The tour was well organised and ran smoothly and the guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. Being greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival was a pleasant surprise! Can definitely recommend this tour.
Excellent trip, wonderful food and drink, amazing guides and outstanding setting
We had a great time, with nice up close views of the animals. Our driver, Maurtie was extraordinary, he made a long ride fun and enjoyable, can't say enough good about him. The extra elephant feeding is a must, nothing like it!
Our driver, Denver, was awesome and got us safely to and from Aquila Game Reserve. Once we arrived, the bubbly wine and breakfast started the safari on the right foot! We boarded the safari vehicles and started on our journey through the reserve. The animals are fantastic and it was just so neat to see them in action! Just realize that this is a reserve and not a national park- the animals are fenced in and it can feel like a wild zoo and not an actual safari. It doesn't limit the danger, though. We got pretty close to the lions, the rhinos were still treated as dangerous, and the guides still have to keep you safe. Half way through the tour, we were able to get out and walk around with another glass of bubbly near the zebras. The tour ended with a fabulous lunch! After lunch, we lounged in some chairs by the fire pit. There is also drink service at this time. It was an amazing day! Loved every bit of it!
Well what can I say - this tour was the best thing I have ever done.
I visited South Africa for five days with work and decided to spend the three nights i had to myself in Cape Town. First of all - the most amazing city I have ever visited !
I was picked up on time and after picking up the other people, we set off along the beautifully scenic garden route stopping off to do a 4x4 safari for a couple of hours and then do a lion walk. The lion walk was the highlight of the tour. Walking with the kings of the jungle is just something I will never forget.
An overnight stop in Oudtshoorn pronounced 'oates-urgh-in' in a comfortable family run b and b was done then the ostrich farm, elephant ride amazing also and then the wildlife ranch followed before arriving back at my hotel for 6.30pm.
Everything mentioned in the itinary was done and for the price, is something i would recommend to everyone. Truly unforgettable and a great way to see the sights outside of the city which are breath taking.
Finally, a special mention to the tour guide Andrew. A top bloke who made sure everyone was ok. Didn't intervene and allowed people to get on with what they wanted to do. I was on my own and he made me feel very welcome. Deserved the big tip I gave him. If you read this mate, again, it was awesome to meet you.
The game reserve was great, and the animals were a pleasure to watch. The buffet breakfast and lunch were super.
Beautiful!!!!! Totally beyond expectations.

This 2 Day Safari was amazing. Our tour guide,Andrew, was so well informed and did everything to make our voyage interesting and informative. While the safari and visit to the Wildlife Park were amazing and we got to see quite a number of different species of animals, the lion walk and elephant ride were the highlight of the trip. Thanks Viator and to Andrew for such an amazing time.
Great safari. Well thought of scheduling. Thank you.
I HAD THE BEST TOUR GUIDE EVERRRR! I hope that I remain life long friends with Isaac, he was so funny, knowledgeable and great to be around. The tour was amazing and something you must do if you come to Cape Town, I got a chance to face my fears and walk with lions, I also got to ride an elephant and feed ostriches. If I could give this 10 stars I would.
Very nice tour with both breakfast and lunch included, totally worth the price!
