According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Irene has weakened from a Category 2 to a Category 1 today. This does not mean it will stay this way – Hurricane Irene may regain its strength. As Hurricane Irene roars over warm waters from the Caribbean to the United States, it is in an ideal position to intensify and strengthen to Category 4. Hurricane Irene has already stormed through the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, cutting power to more than a million people on Monday. Vieques, Puerto Rico has been affected the worse with no power, water, or cell phone service.
