The Basics

Visitors to Chamonix usually opt for the popular cable car ride. Tickets include access to the 360-degree summit viewing station and Step into the Void observation deck, a glass cage teetering over the cliff edge.

Many visitors arrive on a day trip from Geneva, just over the Swiss border. Full-day tours often combine Aiguille du Midi cable car skip-the-line tickets with a ride on Montenvers Railway, an open-top bus tour of Chamonix, or free time to explore the resort town.

Paragliding Experience from Chamonix Mont Blanc and Aiguille du midi cable ride
Paragliding experience with Jean-Charles was phenomenal...easily 6 stars! The rest of the tour was pretty basic and the timings could have been sorted out a little better. Had too little time at the top of Aiguille du Midi and didn't have close to enough time to Step Into the Void. Yet, I had two hours of 'downtime' after the paragliding just wandering around the quaint but very touristy downtown of Chamonix waiting for the bus to show up.
Fantastic Day Trip!

Chamonix Ski Day from Geneva with Optional Aiguille du Midi Cable Car Ride
This is a great choice if you're looking for a day trip into Chamonix! Bus ride - easy to get to, informative and organized! The guide spoke many languages Cable Car Ride - a must! You go early enough to bypass all the lines(tickets are handed out during the bus trip to France) Skiing - if you plan accordingly and manage your timing, you should have enough time to grab your rentals and ski for about 1.5hrs When you're done with the cable car and skiing, you have enough time to walk around the cute and quaint Chamonix town and check out the shops - so much to do and see! At around 5:30pm the bus departs and you head back to Geneva.

Chamonix Ski Day from Geneva with Optional Aiguille du Midi Cable Car Ride
I enjoyed it very much. The mountain view was extraordinary going up the cable car is a must! - you want to make sure you spend good time on it and snowboarding experience was definitely worth it. The 1 less star stands for the amount of time I had for snowboarding. With how it is scheduled, I could only snowboard for a short time... maybe 1.5 hr...? As mentioned, you do not want to and you can't just rush up on a cable car and come back down quickly. However it was 1.5 hr, the experience itself was great. Good range of courses in intermediate and advanced level, not crowded so you do not have to wait in a long line to get on a chair lift, etc. The view you get while you ski/snowboard is absolutely stunning. If ski/snowboard is the thing you want to do there, I suggest you to book an overnight trip to Chamonix, but this trip is great for someone who wants to do something a little different, wants to include sports activity, but has limited time. Overall, it was a highly satisfying trip.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The cable car takes you to the top station, from where it’s a short elevator ride to the summit. Plan two to three hours for the entire trip.

  • Ticket lines can take more than an hour at peak times, so it’s worth prebooking skip-the-line admission.

  • A restaurant, café, and souvenir shops are located at the second station.

  • Dress warmly—temperatures can be as low as 14°F (–10°C) even in summer—but don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen, too, as the sun can be strong at the peak's high altitude.

  • The Aiguille du Midi cable car is wheelchair accessible, although some activities and attractions on the mountaintop may not be accessible.

Things to Do at Aiguille du Midi

Ski, rock climb, and paraglide at Plan de l'Aiguille mid-station, depending on the season. Or, hike to Montenvers Train Station and look out over Mer de Glace glacier, before riding the train back to Chamonix. At the top station, brave the Step into the Void observation platform, before walking through The Pipe to encircle the entire summit, or ride the Mont Blanc Gondola to the peak of France’s Helbronner.
