Private day trip to Turda salt mine and Alba Carolina Fortress from Cluj-Napoca
From $148.22 (Price varies by group size )
well paced nice trip
, Aug 2019
An excellent trip with our guide Llona. Picked up on time at the hotel, and then the long drive to the Alba fortress. Spent some time there with the very knowledgebale llona. Had refreshments there. Then on the way back stopped for lunch at the beautiful village and then on to the salt mine. However when we reached Salina Turda it was already 3:30 pm but we did manage to spend time there. We did not have time for the boat ride as there was a long queue.
Overall a nice trip with a nice friendly guide who was very accommodating to all our requests

I had a lovely morning with my guide. I was picked up outside my hotel on time and then we drove to the mine. The tour started on thedrive with interesting sites pointed out en route. The salt mine is an interesting experience to see and explore - even the ferris wheel inside!
Please wear walking shoes - there are steps and it can be slippy.
This tour was amazing. The tour guide was super nice and new tons about the area. Once we got to the Turda Salt Mine, he knew even more! He knew the history, the details, little known facts, any question I had was answered!! I definitely recommend this tour!
The salt mine was amazing. I could overlook the Disneyland aspects and focus on the beauty and history. We had a rough start because our guide was 40-45 minutes late. We sat in the lobby and became concerned that we had been stood-up. She came and said traffic was bad and that she had tried to contact us. The Hotel had no record of any call. (Cluj has bad traffic at peak times everyday so this should have been anticipated.) Also we were not told that there would be others on the tour, as we thought it would be just my husband and me. We had to pick up someone else after this. Four people were fine with us, as it turned out. Needs to tighten up on these aspects. The guide was fine once we got started.

Great adventure, amazing
, Oct 2019
Well guided excursion to the salt mines, very informative, then great hiking, for which you must be a little bit physically prepared as the road is rocky:) but it worth doing that, because the nature and the views are amazing
More than a guided day, an experience with a new friend.

Tudor is an incredible man. Friendly, funny, knowledgeable. It was an absolute joy to spend the day with him. We did the salt mines, the gorge hike (and the extra bonus of walking back high on the cliffs, maybe not the best idea I've ever had but still fantastic), and a really cool village for dinner. But mostly, it was his company. Do yourself a favor, call Tudor. Next time I'm here, he's going to get to show me something else.
Turda Salt Mine it’s probably one of the most important and interesting places to see in Transylvania.
According to the top of the most spectacular sights to see out there made by the site businessinsider.com, Turda Salt Mine is situated on the 22nd place. Salina Turda, located in Turda, Romania, is home to an underground theme park that's nestled inside one of the oldest salt mines in the world.
Turda Gorge. The canyon is nearly 3 km long, with 300 m high walls sculpted in weathered limestone.
Bring the camera because you will be impressed with the work that a river did inside a mountain in hundreds of millions of years. At first sight, you will see two rocky massifs, which were once one and which were separated by erosion of Jurassic limestone rock by the river
The private day trip to Corvin Castle and Alba Carolina will give you a better perspective about Transylvania's culture, history, and architecture. Also, the two stops will give you the perfect opportunity to take some of the best pictures for your social media, while in Transylvania.
The day started with a long road drive to Sighisoara. Spent a few hours wandering the place. Then stopped for lunch at Biertan followed by a tour of the fortified church. A long day but worth it.
My only comment would be that it would have been nice to stop somewhere during the drive to sighisoara for a coffee/comfort break.
Apart from that the two sites are well preserved, clean, and not too many tourist traps. Would definitely recommend
Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained things in a lot of detail.
Experience two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in one day on a private 10-hour excursion. After a scenic drive through the Transylvanian highlands, tour the medieval city center of Sighisoara. The historic town is known for being the birthplace of the notorious Vlad Dracul, who inspired the character of Dracula. Enjoy lunch in the secluded Biertan, then tour its impressive fortified church.

Like traveling with a history professor

Joseph was so interesting! Everywhere we went, he had historical tidbits and information - it made for quite a day. It was raining, so we decided not to do the gorge hike; Joseph offered a tour of a local fort in exchange. I'm so glad we did that - we got to see Roman ruins and Hapsburg architecture. I would definitively recommend this if you have a day to devote to the tour.
Highly recommend this trip. If you get Joseph as your guide you've hit the jackpot. He's a very knowledgeable nice guy. The salt mines are vast and somewhat chilly( bring something warm). Dinner was terrific. The village is historic. The Gorge, well, you have to be fairly sure footed as the path is stoney. A day well spent (from about 8am to 6pm).
We had a great day with Geta. She speaks excellent English and French. We learned a lot about salt mines thanks to her, explore the Turda Gorge and had a good time in the village of Rimeata. We enjoyed his company and his friendly attentions. This was perfect ! We highly recommend this trip.
Wander in an underground gleaming gallery that looks like something straight out of a Sci-Fi movie to discover an ancient Transylvanian chronicle carved in salt. Chill out in a charming little mountain village. Walk along a wild gorge and quest a fortified cave.
Incredibly Wonderful, Informative and Personable Tour of the Beautiful City of Cluj Napoca

Our, guide, Andrea, met us early at the agreed upon meeting point next to the statue in the square. She first sat us down and gave us a remarkable history of Cluj dating back to the year 200 AD to understand the evolution of the culture and heritage of the city. We then proceeded to walk all over the most important places with in depth history and stories about all of them. Andrea was so knowledgeable and fun to be with we hated to part with her at the end of the tour. We highly recommend Andrea to anyone visiting Cluj Napoca.

We were looking for a day trip from Cluj, both locations were great to visit. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. I noticed other people listening to our guide because they were missing the great stories. Would highly recommend this itinerary.
I had a wonderful tourguide by the name of Joseph who took me on a adventure and had the patience to go into great detail about the history of each location. At the end of the experience I feel I have a greater understanding of a previous part of their history - and I can tell you, it is intriguing. I enjoyed it so much, I've passed the details onto all of my colleagues and intend to book at least one more tour!
