Currently, the Venetian Loggia is the home to the Heraklion City Hall but it was once the clubhouse of the local nobility. Its past and former lives are quite a contrast: it used to be a gentleman’s club for the male aristocracy; now the old Venetian Armory has been restored to its original Palladian elegance and houses the government. The bottom of the building is an open-air labyrinth and the meeting hall is above.
If you want to take a quick break from touring, walk down to the end of Platanos Square to Rimondi Fountain. It is a fountain similar to the Morosini Fountain, carved with ornate lions and ideal for people watching.
