Trip Inspiration
Located in the foothills of the Serra do Mar mountains—and within easy day tripping distance of Curitiba—Aguas Claras Water Park is one of the region’s largest water parks. The family-friendly destination has an attraction for travelers of all ages; highlights include high-speed water slides, wave pools, a boating lake, and a zipline course.
Admission tickets to Agua Claras offer full-day access to most of the park’s attractions. Get your adrenaline fix on one of the water slides, which include the 49-foot (15-meter) Kamikaze, or relax on the lazy river or in a hydrotherapy pool. Other attractions include soccer pitches, water volleyball pools, and a fishing lake. A number of optional activities are available for an extra cost, including a treetop adventure course with ziplines, paddle boats and kayaks, and a mini train ride.
On-site facilities include rentable chalets and apartments, lockers, free sunbeds and parasols, a shop, and a selection of cafés and restaurants.
Prepaid cards are issued at the park’s entrance and can be used to purchase items at the shop and restaurants.
The park is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Aguas Claras is located 14 miles (22 kilometers) north of Matinhos, or a 20-minute drive, and around 60 miles (97 kilometers) from Curitiba, or a 1.5-hour drive. There’s no public transport directly to the park, but you can take a taxi from Matinhos. If you opt to arrive using your own transport, free parking is available.
The park is open daily from December through February, from 9am to 6pm. From March to April and September to November, the park only opens at weekend. The busiest time to visit is over summer, when arriving at the park early is recommended.
Stretching south of São Paulo state, Parana boasts secluded beaches surrounded by some of the last remaining stretches of the Atlantic Forest. Ride the scenic Serra Verde Express railway from Curitiba to Morrentes for great views of the rainforest, and then continue to the coastal town of Paranaguá, the starting point for cruises to Ilha do Mel. Fringed with white-sand beaches, the small island is renowned for having some of the region’s best surfing spots. To the south, the towns of Matinhos and Guaratuba serve as the gateway to more pristine beaches.
