This was a wonderful tour conducted by our very knowledgeable guide. In addition to visiting many sites all with explanation of culture, we also got to tour the cliff house. While you can drive yourself around the park, I think you would miss out on a lot of the history.
I had the pleasure to be in a small group. Kellie was our tour leader and she was very knowledgeable and also knew the in and outs of Mesa Verde. Was shown some interesting spots and the quiet nature was something that I really miss in the big cities.

Spend a morning on Colorado's San Miguel River with this half-day rafting tour near Telluride. With an experienced river guide, you'll paddle through consistent Class II and intermittent Class III rapids, taking in the scenery of red rock walls and pine trees along the narrow river.
At moderate to high flows this is one of the most demanding whitewater stretches in the US launching from Silverton, CO at 9,300 feet. Ten miles of challenging river culminates with Class V No Name Rapid. From here it is 2 miles of continuous whitewater dropping an amazing 120ft/mi ending at Needleton where we will board the train for the ride back to Durango. Outstanding, challenging, breathtaking: the definition of world class.
The Durango-Silverton Train will take us to the halfway point in the canyon where this trip begins at Needleton. Here lies the start of 12 miles of the friendlier side of the Upper Animas. The river quickly gets your attention with Class IV Broken Bridge Rapid followed by miles of continuous Class II & III whitewater. Stunning scenery and fun whitewater action make this the foremost trip in the state for all experience levels!
Run after the flows have peaked for the season and the Silverton & Needleton stretches become too low to raft. The 200 foot deep Rockwood Gorge is narrow enough and steep enough to provide exciting Class IV pool-drop rapids late into the summer! We access the gorge with a beautiful train ride into the canyon and end with a 1 mile hike 400 feet up to our waiting vehicle.
Going north up river from our office you will find the Durango Discovery Museum, Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum (free), award winning Durango Public Library, the Durango Recreation Center, and just 5 blocks off the trail is the Animas museum. The trail ends at the start of our Lower Animas raft trips at 32nd street.
Going south from our office you will find Santa Rita Park and Smelter Rapid where photos are taken of the rafters. Further along is a mini-golf course, the Durango Mall and everyone’s favorite, Wally World
