The trip was long. 12 hours pickup to drop off. Maybe 45 minutes getting into Jordan and 20 minutes getting back into Israel.
Petra was amazing. Worth the time and money. We went in November and it was COLD COLD COLD.....and windy. Guide was great, well informed, but went on a 30 minute rant at the beginning to tell us what was wrong in Middle East. Oil, money, religion.....got it thanks. The lunch provided was brutal. But Petra was great. Want to go again in warm weather.
Too much waiting time
1. They consolidate Eilat and Tel Avis passengers
2. Jordan side guide was late - were told he is always late
3. Money collection on Israel and Jordan side takes time as it is not well organized - could have been charged upfront to avoid delay.
4. Delayed due to couple of people coming late from 1st break -
5. No microphone - hard to listen all conversation in a large group of 15+ people

We were picked up at our hotel by Alex - the owner of the company. He had no trouble finding us even though some taxis couldn't. (Not all companies pick up and he doesn't charge extra for it). He has small groups , only up to seven in an jeep and at most two jeeps (vintage Land Rovers). The Red Canyon was challenging - I'm 67 and in decent shape -but Alex was there every step of the way. Highly recommended.

Why does an experienced diver need an instructor?
The majority might think that having a certificate, an insurance and experience is enough to not use the help of an instructor. In this case the help of a professional is not in teaching and giving advice. An instructor is more of a guide, companion or friend that knows all the secrets of the local underwater world and is ready to share them with you. He can be just a guide, but he can also help gain confidence in an unknown place and be a mentor in any difficult situation.
Together with an experienced guide you can set off on an exciting journey to extraordinary coral reefs, wrecks other fascinating dive-sites.
