The Basics

This massive stone palace was once home to the ruling Medici family, then to the Austrian House of Lorraine, and finally to the House of Savoy—until Victor Emmanuel III donated the palazzo and its contents to the nation of Italy in 1919. A full 140 rooms, housing a number of important museums and galleries, are open to the public. The Palatine Gallery, which holds an impressive collection of Renaissance masterpieces, including works by artists Raphael, Titian and Rubens, is the most famous. Visitors can also tour the sumptuous Royal Apartments, Silver Museum, Porcelain Museum, Carriage Museum, and Costume Gallery. The palazzo even houses a Modern Art Gallery, highlighting Italian painters from the 18th to early-20th centuries.

An array of private and group tours, often including skip-the-line access to Pitti Palace and other nearby attractions, are available. Consider joining a walking tour of Florence that visits a number of Renaissance monuments built during the reign of the Medici family.

Great Tour
We really enjoyed our tour of the Pitti Palace. There is so much to see and take in that it helped to have our guide walk us throught the rooms and share the history and the art of each room. It was a very good tour and our guide was great.

Uffizi Combined Ticket: UFFIZI, PITTI, BOBOLI & digital audioguide
These areas are crowded and there will be lots of stairs. Eat a good breakfast before starting out. This won't be a relaxing stroll, but try it.

Pitti Palace Boboli Garden & Palatina Gallery Guided Tour
Another excellent tour guide from Viator! Our guide shared her wealth of knowledge about the beautiful artwork in the Pitti Place. She was quick to point out many details we would have missed. The same was true of the Boboli Garden. Our guide had all the tidbits to make this tour one of our favorites.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the artists and their works. Each of the palaces rooms were more beautiful than the one before it.

Uffizi Combined Ticket: UFFIZI, PITTI, BOBOLI & digital audioguide
All were wonderful. Wish we would have understood the Uffizi was the only one we had to do on the day we booked it and then you had 5 days to explore the rest as we booked this for our last day in Firenze so we did them all in one day which was sensory overload. All are worth seeing!!

Palazzo Pitti Private Tour (with Ticket for Boboli Gardens)
Our guide Camila was fabulous and as a student of the arts pursuing her doctorate she was very knowledgeable and informative along with being enthusiastic and entertaining!! The palace was beautiful and the gardens were fabulous (even though we were to early for the wisteria blossoms) but nothing topped the fabulous views of Florence. Having a drink at the cafe overlooking the city was magical!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Pitti Palace is one of Florence's most important attractions, home to centuries of art and history. Booking a guided tour including skip-the-line tickets is strongly recommended.

  • Due to the sheer scope of the palace and its collections, by far the best way to visit is with a tour guide who can lead you through the highlights.

  • Large backpacks, bags, and umbrellas are not allowed inside; there is a free cloakroom at the entrance.

  • The palazzo is completely wheelchair accessible.
