The Basics

This massive stone palace was once home to the ruling Medici family, then to the Austrian House of Lorraine, and finally to the House of Savoy—until Victor Emmanuel III donated the palazzo and its contents to the nation of Italy in 1919. A full 140 rooms, housing a number of important museums and galleries, are open to the public. The Palatine Gallery, which holds an impressive collection of Renaissance masterpieces, including works by artists Raphael, Titian and Rubens, is the most famous. Visitors can also tour the sumptuous Royal Apartments, Silver Museum, Porcelain Museum, Carriage Museum, and Costume Gallery. The palazzo even houses a Modern Art Gallery, highlighting Italian painters from the 18th to early-20th centuries.

An array of private and group tours, often including skip-the-line access to Pitti Palace and other nearby attractions, are available. Consider joining a walking tour of Florence that visits a number of Renaissance monuments built during the reign of the Medici family.

Knowledgeable Tour Guide, even though VIATOR screwed up!

Pitti Palace, Boboli and Bardini gardens tour
We arrived at the meeting location. however Viator did not forward our reservation information to the tour service. Alissa did everything she could to get us our tour, including giving the tour herself, as her guides were sent home for the day because Viator never informed them of our $600 tour reservation. Stressful, to say the least. But Alisa was FANTASTIC!!! Our tour lasted for 3 & 1/2 hours, but because of the Viator error we never got to the Baldini Gardens. A disappointment. Viator needs to get their act together and not have this happen to any other tourists.

Florence Pitti Palace: Palatina Gallery Small Group 1.5-hour Guided Tour
This was an exceptional tour of an incredibly beautiful palace. Every room was breathtaking for its art and design. The ceilings are spectacular, beyond description. Our guide was passionate, thoroughly knowledgeable and went at a very good pace. I highly recommend this tour. One thing to note is our confirmation said we had to redeem the confirmation to get the tickets at the “redemption center” (the ticket office “, which was a waste of time because the tickets office flatly said they don’t have them, and then our guide showed up with the tickets. The tour company needs to fix these outdated instructions.

Florence Pitti Palace: Palatina Gallery Small Group 1.5-hour Guided Tour
I am delayed in getting this review posted. We did our tour with Mauricio 2 weeks ago. He is a fantastic tour guide. We were expecting a standard tour of the artwork and palace. What we got was almost 2 hours of in depth knowledge on the history of Florence and it's paintings and sculptures. Mauricio clearly has a passion for the art which makes the tour that much more enjoyable. He explains the history of all of the artwork, the artists themselves and who/how they were influenced. It made such and impact on me that when we visited the Uffizi and Academie on own later in our trip, we were able to recall everything that Mauricio had said about the artists, artwork and their progression. Truly an enjoyable experience and highly recommended for anyone that visits Florence, especially for those that love art. Mauricio will not disappoint you.

FlorencePass provides an excellent tour, extremely knowledgeable about the art and history. Speech is slow and very distinct easy to understand. This tour was amazing, especially seeing so many well known artists displayed.

What a wonderful tour. Our guide, Leonardo was amazing. Unfortunately we were not able to go into the boboli gardens due to weather but tour company wasted no time in refunding that portion of the ticket. Highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic Tour of Palace and Gardens

Pitti Palace Boboli Garden & Palatina Gallery Guided Tour
Our tour guide (Roberto or Roberta?) was wonderful. She did a great tour of the palace, but clearly her forte was the gardens. Her knowledge of horticulture is quite amazing and she made the whole experience quite fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. We can highly recommend this tour and guide. (Thanks Roberto!)

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Pitti Palace is one of Florence's most important attractions, home to centuries of art and history. Booking a guided tour including skip-the-line tickets is strongly recommended.

  • Due to the sheer scope of the palace and its collections, by far the best way to visit is with a tour guide who can lead you through the highlights.

  • Large backpacks, bags, and umbrellas are not allowed inside; there is a free cloakroom at the entrance.

  • The palazzo is completely wheelchair accessible.
