Romance and beauty are easy to feel when visiting Florence anytime of the year, but if it happens that you are in the city on St Valentine's Day, here are a few things that could help make those sensations even stronger.

A late, or second breakfast, or the perfect mid-morning break is at Verrazzano (via dei Tavolini 18/r). The coffee is great, the biscuits, pastries and cakes are delicious. It is buzzy whilst being cozy, and very local, the perfect place to sink your teeth into the custard of a torta della nonna slice with your loved one.

A stroll over the other side of the river and up to the famous viewpoint of the city below, Piazzale Michelangelo, is a perfect way to build up the appetite for lunch. The view is spectacular and you may be taking photos of each other alongside winter brides and grooms as it is a favorite place for wedding photos and lovers.

Continue a little further up the road and visit the Benedictine monastery, San Miniato al Monte where the view is even more spectacular and there is the magnificent church to visit also.

Strolling back down the hill, you will arrive at the little local neighborhood called San Niccolo. Zeb (via San Miniato 2/r) is great for soups to warm your heart and hands, and everything else on their menu is good too.

During the late afternoon, after wandering down the beautiful via Tornabuoni with all the high-end shops on the ground floor of centuries old buildings, a prosecco is needed (Italian sparkling white wine) to toast your love, coupled with a little truffle sandwich at Procacci (via Tornabuoni 64), the exquisite historical local bar much loved by the Florentines. Or, a coffee at the exotic leopard print material clad Cafe Giacosa (via della Spada 10) just across the road.

For dinner there are two options: Frescobaldi (via dei Magazzini 4), offers scrumptious food teamed with a great bottle of the centuries old Florentine family's award winning red or whites. It is located just off the Piazza della Signoria, which is beautifully lit at night, guaranteeing a romantic walk after dinner. Or, for a seafood option, Il Cenacolo del Pescatore (Borgo Ognisssanti 68/r) with the degustation menu. This is a delightful experience, a pleasure and, most importantly, intimate. Both of these restaurants need reservations.

Happy Valentine's Day to all!
