The Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, or Naples Zoo, is more than just a walk-through zoo. The zoo also contains featured exhibits, presentations, shows and even a primate cruise. The Naples Zoo’s paved path takes visitors through a mile-long stretch of beautiful landscape populated with rare animals that reside in the tropical gardens that date back to the early 1900s.
Check out the South American Wonders exhibit, showcasing the diversity of Central and South America. A giant anteater and endangered tamarins are some of the wildlife on display there. Other exhibits feature honey badgers, alligators, striped hyenas, coyotes, giraffes and the incredibly rare fosas of Madagascar, along with many other animals.
When it comes to big cats, Naples Zoo has leopards, tigers, and cheetahs. It also boasts the biggest black bear exhibit east of the Mississippi in an accredited zoo. Be sure to visit the African Oasis with greater kudu, impala antelope, and the endangered slender-horned gazelles. Some of the zoo’s shows and presentations include a primate expedition cruise, which is a guided journey past islands of monkeys, lemurs and apes, or meet the keeper, where you can talk to a professional zookeeper.
The Naples Zoo is open year round from 9am until 5pm, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The zoo also closes at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
