Glengoyne Distillery
When in Scotland, you don’t have to head to the Highlands for a taste of good whisky—you don’t even have to leave the Lowlands. The historic Glengoyne Distillery dates back to 1833 and is renowned for its award-winning malt whiskies, distilled at a third of the usual rate and matured in sherry oak casks.

The Basics
Hidden away among the wooded valleys of the Campsie Fells, Glengoyne Distillery is celebrated for both its scenic location. Choose from a number of tours and tastings, which usually give you the chance to peek into the legendary Warehouse No.1, take a Malt Master tour, or indulge in a whisky tasting masterclass.

Many tours combine a visit to Glengoyne with time in Loch Lomond. Opting for an excursion means that you don’t have to worry about driving after indulging in a few drams of whisky, as Scotland has particularly strict drink driving laws.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Tasting tours give you the chance to sample whiskys as old as 21 years.
  • In Scotland, the legal drinking age is 18.
  • Visiting the distillery requires climbing stairs, which poses difficulties for wheelchair users.
How to Get There
Glengoyne Distillery is a 30-minute drive from the center of Glasgow. You can also take the X10 bus in the direction of Balfron from Buchanan Bus Station in central Glasgow and get off at the gates of Glengoyne—the total journey time is around one hour.

When to Get There
The distillery is open seven days a week and tours run on the hour. From March through October, opening hours are from midmorning until late afternoon. From November through February, the distillery closes one hour earlier than in summer. Double-check opening times if visiting over the Christmas season.

Shop for Whisky at the On-Site Shop
The distillery has a shop where you can purchase bottles from the collection, as well as some that are not sold anywhere else. You can also personalize the label of a purchased bottle with your own message for a unique gift.
Address: Dumgoyne G63 9LB, Scotland
Hours: Daily: Mar – Nov: 10am-5pm, Dec-Feb: 10am- 4pm
Admission: Tours start from £9
