Guanacaste hosts Costa Rica’s second international airport in Liberia, which is a better bet to fly into when planning to visit this side of Costa Rica. The area has at least seven national parks and a section of the Pacific coast with four beaches—Playa Pan de Azucar, Playa Flamingo, Playa Conchal, and Playa Brasilito - that each feature different personalities - including the sand.
South of the multiple-personality beaches and accessible by bus from Liberia, Tamarindo is an amenity-laden town with a huge emphasis on surfing, for amateurs and experts alike. Just north of Playa Tamarindo is consistently surf-able Playa Grande, where Leatherback Turtles also lay their eggs from November to May.
