- Watching the sunrise at Haleakala Crater is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which is only made better by hopping on a bike and riding back down to the beach. Begin early with pre-dawn pickup between 2 and 3am before making the winding journey in the dark to the 10,023 ft. summit. As the horizon begins to slowly turn red, then gradually to orange and yellow, the lunar beauty of Haleakala Crater begins to come into view. After the sun has crested the eastern horizon and bathed the crater in light, drive back down to the National Park boundary for 26 miles of a biking downhill to the sands of Pai'a Bay.
