A nature lover’s playground tucked in the valleys of the Bernese Alps; Interlaken has earned itself a reputation as one of Switzerland’s most-visited destinations. With world-class hiking, extreme sports and an idyllic setting, it would be easy to spend several weeks exploring the region, but with just 3 days, here’s a few pointers to get you started.
Day 1: Explore the lakes
Lake Thun is the region’s largest lake and a great place to start exploring the region. Take a dip in the water, try your hand at some water sports like wakeboarding or windsurfing, or hire a rowing boat to navigate the waters. After a picnic lunch, take a hike to the nearby St. Beatus Caves.
Day 2: Get your adrenaline pumping
Interlaken has earned itself a reputation as one of Europe’s premier adventure sport hotspots, so make sure you raise your heart rate with at least one new activity while you’re in town. If bungee jumping, skydiving and canyoning are too extreme, try paragliding, horse riding or a mountain biking tour.
Day 3: Take to the hills
The surrounding mountains are the best place to fully appreciate the area’s stunning alpine scenery, with expansive vistas over the mountains, lakes and valleys. Take the funicular railway to the summit of Harder Kulm where you can enjoy the vistas from the Two Lakes Bridge and walk the 1.5 hour Theme trail, or enjoy a 50-minute trip on the historic 100-year-old cogwheel railway up to Schynige Platte, where hiking routes abound.
