On a cruise stopping at Aqaba overnight. Decided wanted to float in the Dead Sea. Long car journey but glad we went. The actual sensation of being in the water is very strange and it is difficult to stand up after a short time. The resort got very crowded later in the day as bus loads arrived. Try to go early. Take water shoes as the sand if hot and a bit rocky in places

Jaafar met us precisely at 6:30 AM close to our gangway! Jaafar proved to be an excellent driver and looked after all our needs! He arranged for our local guide at Petra and then met us after we finished our visit!
We were given a cell phone so that after we came back to the entrance, we phoned Jaafar and he promptly picked us up! His car was very comfortable to travel in! He arranged lunch for us at a local barbecue restaurant! Our private transport allowed us to get to the site well before bus loads of people arrived which allowed us to enter Petra gates without waiting in a line up! We walked with our guide at a very slow pace taking lots of pictures and he stopped to give us the history of each particular area. His English was excellent, and he had actually visited our home city , Vancouver, back in the nineties.

Although visiting Jordan on a cruise ship, their tour to Petra could not provide a carriage to travel through the Siq to the Treasury, needed as the 2 ladies in our group could not walk that distance. So we booked the whole trip with Viator and everything worked very well. We were met by a nice representative as soon as we disembarked at the port of Aqaba and transported in an aircon minibus to Petra, with interesting commentary along the way. Entry tickets were purchased for us and we met the awaiting carriage for the ladies' transport. Everything worked well on the return journey, including a nice lunch at a local restaurant. We arrived back at the ship in good time for departure. An excellent tour.

The Dead Sea is 75 kilometers long and from 6 to 16 kilometers wide. It is fed by the Jordan River, but it has no outlet. As its name suggests, the Dead Sea is entirely devoid of plant and animal life. This is due to an extremely high content of salt and other minerals—350 grams of salt per kilogram of water, as compared to about 40 grams in the world’s oceans. This concentration is caused by a rapid rate of evaporation. These natural elements give the waters of the Dead Sea certain curative properties, recognized since the days of Herod the Great over 2000 years ago.
