The small township of Coles Bay sits at the foot of the Hazards and serves as a stopping point for visitors to Freycinet National Park. Its permanent population is less than 200, but folks visit in large numbers to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, boating, sea kayaking and the life that comes with the more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

Dolphins are a common sight in Coles Bay, while nearby Wineglass Bay is a favorite among beach lovers and the cape Tourville Lighthouse is only a 15-minute drive away. An interesting tidbit: Coles Bay was the first town in the world to ban the use of plastic shopping bags.

Practical Info

Coles Bay is approximately two and a half hours from Hobart and Launceston.
