Tamar Valley

The basics

Many visitors to Tamar Valley come to taste their way along the Tamar Valley Wine Route, a collection of more than 30 vineyards. Tasting tours departing from Launceston typically include stops at several local vineyards for the chance to sample local wines, as well as a gourmet lunch at one of the wineries. Visitors can also soak up the scenery on a cruise to Cataract Gorge along the Tamar River or during a hot-air balloon flight high above the rolling hills of Northern Tasmania.

Our wine tour was...
Our wine tour was fabulous, with only one exception. At one of the small vineyards we visited, the staff members seemed totally disinterested in their product. The lunch was excellent and all of the tour group mixed well during the day. Well worth doing, and thanks to our driver Iain.

Winter Brook Winery produces a very good variety of wines from the Bubbly to a Chardonnay. The Tour is a great way to view and taste Tasmania wines

An excellent day tour with our guide Kate. Kate was very informative and has a great knowledge of wine and the area. The vineyards we visited were varied and a good selection of wines were drunk. The Gin tasting may have converted me to be a gin drinker, the lecture from the lady at 3 cuts gin was very informative. The owner of swinging gates vineyard was very enthusiastic about his wines and very generous when it came to the tastings.

Full Day Tamar Valley Wine Tour
We visited 5 wineries including lunch at one of the stops. David took the time to share history of the local area and stopped at several lookouts along the way, as we moved at a leisurely pace though the vinyards in a comfortable van. When we asked him about the Batman Bridge he took us over the bridge on the way back for us to experience the view from the bridge. Highly recommend this tour for people visiting the area who want a great day out.
