There are wonders well worth exploring in Lima, from the fascinating Spanish Colonial center and ancient pre-Columbian huacas, to the upscale enticements of Miraflores and the Costa Verde. That said, the average traveler will get his or her fill of the capital after two or three days of exploring. What then?

While most travelers head to more touristy towns—Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo and so on—some will need to stay in Lima, perhaps for business reasons, or will simply come through several times as they criss-cross the country. There are plenty of outstanding day trips to enjoy; here are five to get you started.
