If you’re looking for a way to get closer to Polynesian culture while on Maui, book your tickets for the Myths of Maui Luau at the Royal Lahaina Resort. As the sun starts to set over the Pacific, your experience will begin with a shell lei being placed around your neck before you tuck into the pua'a kālua (roast pig) cooked underground in the traditional way.
Next follows a show with traditional dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, and New Zealand followed by a fiery finale with the whole cast just as the sun dips behind the horizon.
The Royal Lahaina Resort is located along Kaanapali Beach, a short distance outside the town of Lahaina. There’s a shuttle bus from the hotel to Lahaina town, and the resort is just 10 minutes’ drive from West Maui Airport, and an hour from Kahului International Airport. It’s easy to get to the hotel by taxi or rental car.
The Myths of Maui Luau is held almost every night all year round. The event starts at 6:15pm and is time so that guests can enjoy the sunset as the evening progresses.
One of Maui’s most charming towns, Lahaina’s streets are lined with bars and restaurants, galleries selling local artworks and local boutiques with unusual souvenirs to take home. A thriving local center, it’s a great place to get a feel for "real" life on Maui away from the hotels and resorts.
