Reggae fans who are in Miami on March 12th are in for a real treat, as the 18th annual 9 Mile Music Festival will kick off in downtown’s Bayfront Park. The Festival is sponsored by the Bob Marley Movement and organized to pay tribute to the influential artist’s life and legacy.
One of the largest and longest running reggae festivals in the nation, 9 Mile attracts around 11,000 appreciators each year. This year’s festival features Stephen, Damian, Julian, and Ky-Mani of the Marley clan, as well as major acts like Thievery Corporation, Major Lazer, and many others.
As a nod to the Marley family’s generous record of philanthropy, and Bob Marley’s vision to empower “Jah People” to live with a cause, the event doubles as one of the largest food drives in Southern Florida. Donations of canned goods are required for admission, which go to needy and at-risk individuals and families in the area.
Along with the great music on the main stage, the 9 Mile Festival boasts an array of international food and an entire marketplace of vendors selling crafts and collectibles.
General admission runs $58 (VIP tickets are also available), and organizers are asking for a donation of four canned goods per guest. Doors open at 1:00pm, and the festivities run into the evening. Come out and celebrate the legendary icon’s message of unity, brotherhood, and humanitarianism in the company of like-minded fans, or just jam out to some great tunes in the Miami sun!
