The first stage of the ride covers 34 km from Terelj village to the tent camp site next to the Dund Bayan river in the area of the Princess Temple Gunjiin Sum. The cycling route follows the Tuul river in the Eastern direction for about 15 km with an easy to ride flat terrain. At the place named Sain Ovoo the route takes a left turn to the North. The ride is characterised by solid “ups” and “downs”, Following this visit of the Princess Temple needless to stress that the cold beer, the diner and the rest at the tent camp site will be well deserved! The second mountain biking day begins with a nice breakfast in order to build up the necessary energy for the cycling day. The route follows the Dund Bayan river to the North where we will have a first snack stop on the top of the hill in the area of Zuugiin Rashaan. From there the Mountain biking path engages Southward in an amazing downhill of about 20 km through grassland till the Tuul river.
Within two days, you will explore main nature reserve and national parks closest from Ulaanbaatar city. Opportunities of hiking, camel and horse riding as well as nomadic cultural immersion are included in the tour.
Half of Mongolia is surrounded with three majestic Mountain ranges; Altai, Khangai and Khentii Mountain Ranges. The Hustai National Park is located about 110 Km west of Ulaanbaatar, on the foothills of eastern Hentii Mountains. This is an example of the preservation of one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world: the steppe. This national park is a great example of the vast valleys of rivers, which are divided into hilly terrain which characterise the forest steppe. Dozens of wild creatures are here, such as tigers, deers, and takhi, reinstated in 1990 with the assistance of the Przewalski Horse Foundation reservations and the Netherlands Government.
Lying in the valley of the Terelj River 80 km northeast of Ulaanbaatar, Terelj national park has long been a holiday resort for people from the capital and short – stay tourists. It is one of the most visited areas in Mongolia due to its magnificient scenery and its proximity to Ulaanbaatar. There are great opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, rafting, riding and bird watching. Terelj is picturesque place of high cliffs of granite, rivers and forests. It is located in Khan Khenti Park. Also known as Khustain Nuruu (Birch Mountain Range), this park was established in 1993 and is about 100km southwest of Ulaanbaatar. The 50,620-hectare reserve protects Mongolian wild horse, the takhi, and the reserve’s steppe and forest-steppe environment. In addition to the takhi, there are populations of maral (Asiatic red deer), steppe gazelle, deer, boar, manul (small wild cat), wolf and lynx. A visit to the park has become a popular overnight excursion from Ulaanbaatar in recent years.
Elsen Tasarkhai or mini-Gobi is located 280km west of Ulaanbaatar, and it is a sand dune that stretches 80km long, and 5km wide in Hugnu-Tarna National Park of Bulgan province. During the trip, you will be able to visit ruin of Erdenekhamba monastery in the beautiful landscape of Hugnu Khan mountain, visit local nomadic family who lives in the national park. The area presents a unique combination of Mongolian mountains, forests and Gobi-type landscape all in one location. We will sleep overnight in ger (bring your own sleeping bag), drink milk tea, eating local home-made food, help them to round up their animals, and learn how to cook traditional Mongolian food. It is fun. You also can ride camel on the sand dune.
