Brock's Monument National Historic Site Tours

Standing 56 meters above ground atop Queenston Heights near Niagara Falls, Brock’s Monument National Historic Site is dedicated to Major General Sir Isaac Brock, which is often regarded as the most prominent hero of the War of 1812. The battle disputed control of the Niagara River along the now peaceful international Canada-USA border; on October 13, American troops crossed over to the Canadian side, intending on cutting the British supply line leading west; having been informed of the situation, Major General Brock heroically tried to retake Queenston but was fatally wounded doing so. Additional British soldiers came to the rescue and eventually secured Queenston, effectively winning the bloody battle. Along with his aides-de-camp, Major General Brock is now interred at the monument’s base.

The monument itself was built in 1853 and is a whopping 56 meters tall, the largest monument of its kind in Canada. The battlefield is now open to visitors, with both costumed staff and a small museum explaining the battle and circumstances of the infamous War of 1812. Visitors are even encouraged to climb the 235 to the top of Brock’s Monument, where a expansive view of the Niagara Frontier awaits.
