Pura Aventura translates to ‘pure adventure,’ of which there is plenty at this Costa Rican park on a scenic hacienda (cattle ranch). Surrounded by a mix of primary and secondary rainforest, there’s both new and mature plant life as well as waterfalls, natural springs and pools, and six rivers feeding into 1,400 acres of land. The park offers canopy and horseback riding as the methods by which to best explore and enjoy the rich nature of the Guanacaste area. Passing above the forest in the canopy can include everything from a swinging bridge to rappelling and zip lining.
The ranch and park are well integrated into the natural environment, and both mountain and ocean views can be seen from its pastures. The stables are home to the horses that take visitors on relaxed rides through the surrounding forest. Mountain bikers will also find trails and guided groups through the jungle. Tropical birds, monkeys, iguanas, and butterflies are a few of the animals that also call the rainforest home, and wildlife sightings are not uncommon.
Pura Aventura is located on Playa Tamarindo. Tours are family friendly and open to children over the age of 5. Some walking is required and close-toed shoes are recommended. Open daily from 8 am to 4 pm, activity costs begin at $55. They offer shuttles from Tamarindo area hotels.
