Montmartre

Paris, Ile-de-France

The Basics

Montmartre is included in many city sightseeing tours alongside other top attractions, which are great options for time-pressed travelers in Paris. For a more in-depth look at Montmartre, select an experience tailored to your interests, such as a Montmartre food tour or an art-themed walking tour. For nighttime fun, head to a cabaret show at the Moulin Rouge, located down the hill in Pigalle. Of course, Montmartre can also be visited independently.

Great tour with a very knowledgeable guide. It was fun to walk through the quaint streets of Montmartre and learn about the history of this part of Paris. The pain au chocolat was delicious, too.

Paris Hidden Montmartre Small-Group or Private Walking Tour
Vivien, our tour guide, was very polite and proffesional but kept the atmosphere friendly and fun. The group was small (only 4 of us) so he was able to concentrate on every one of us and answer all of our questions. He really managed to show us the unknown and hidden parts of Montmartre, his stories were extremly interesting and well said. The lenght and concept of the tour was just right. I would recommend this to my friends.

3-Hour Full Meal Food Tour in Montmartre
Our guide Silvana was amazing!! She offered a wealth of knowledge on the area of Montmartre. She offered many tidbits of information that may have otherwise been forgotten. The photos on her iPad she prepared from past history brought current affairs to real life. The food was great and large portions if you're concerned about quantities. Our group could not consume the portions so we were able to bring the remaining back with us!

Stef was funny, friendly and more than anything an informed and expert guide. I know Paris well and Montmartre too and he showed us all the little places and details that anchor the place in my memory. He showed us the ‘real’ Montmartre and we loved every moment.

Our guide “Mitch” was fantastic! He lives in Montmartre and was very passionate and knowledgeable about his neighborhood. He shared many stories about the history, artists who frequented the area, and movies that were filmed in Montmartre. He really brought the place to life for us. Another wonderful day in Paris!

Montmartre Hill Sweet & Savory French Gourmet Food & Wine Tasting Tour
This tour takes you up into the Westbank (starting near Moulin Rouge). Cobble stone roads and more casual neighborhoods. Our tour guide Stefano was funny and knowledgeable. We had at least 4-5 tastings and a lovely lunch with generous portions of cheese, meats, breads and wine. I passed on the starter - Escargot. It was especially nice walking the streets in this neighborhood. Highly recommend this tour. Gets you out if the big city a bit and into the neighborhoods. We absolutely loved it!

How to Get There

Montmartre can be easily reached from across Paris. Climb the hill on foot, ride the funicular to the base of Sacré-Coeur, or opt for the photo-friendly staircases. By public transit, the Abbesses metro station deposits you a few blocks from Place du Tertre, and the Anvers metro station puts you just below Sacré-Coeur. Any taxi driver will know how to get to Montmartre.

Visit Paris' Only Working Vineyard

Less of a secret than it used to be but still an interesting hidden gem, Le Clos Montmartre is the only working vineyard in Paris. Set on the slopes of the hill, north of Place du Tertre, the vines were originally planted to defend the area from property development and are owned by the city. Catching a glimpse of the vineyard offers a nice respite from Montmartre’s crowds and while it’s not open to the general public, you can book a tour.
