Taiping Zoo in Perak is located within the scenic natural setting of the Taiping Lake Gardens. It is home to more than 180 species of exotic animals, including lions, tigers, elephants, hippos, giraffes, and orangutans.
Covering an area of 34 acres, Taiping Zoo has undergone some developments recently, with the building of its new ‘open concept’ enclosures. These allow greater freedom for the zoo’s various animals by taking into consideration their natural habitats. After the sun goes down, the zoo also offers a night safari, where visitors can experience the nocturnal animals of the zoo under special lighting that recreates the illusion of moonlight.
A trip to Taiping Zoo can be combined with other popular activities in the area, including a visit to Orangutan Island, a stroll through the Lake Gardens, and a trip to the Perak Museum.
Insider’s Tip: Torches and flash photography are not permitted on the zoo’s night safari so as not to disturb the animals. All noises should also be kept to an absolute minimum.
If not traveling as part of an organized tour, you’ll find signposts all along Jalan Taming Sari highway leading to Taiping Zoo.
