The restaurant is called Posh and is located in Old Town Scottsdale on East Rancho Vista Drive. The concept is completely unique - improvisational cuisine! For a very picky eater, this was totally scary, but at the same time so much fun! This is how it works:
When you enter the restaurant, you are either seated at a table or at the bar around the kitchen (which I highly recommend so you can watch all the action). You are then given a long sheet of paper for you to select the number of courses you want (4, 5, 6, 7 or full tasting - 1st and last courses always being soup/salad and desert), and if you want, you can choose to pair your meal with wine; the evenings proteins (there were 13 to choose from the night I went), how you like it all cooked and finally, what you don't like (allergies, etc). Then, it's up to the chef to decide what you eat!
The 13 proteins on offer were quite varied, from sweetbreads to wild boar bacon and from shrimp to NY Strip and some frogs legs thrown in there too. Here's how my meals played out:
• Curried Pumpkin Soup with Pesto
• Shrimp with Quinoa, Bok Choy in a Shrimp Veloute
• Wild Boar Bacon with Haricot Vert and Butternut Squash
• Venison with English Spinach, Pureed Parsnip and Blueberry Sauce
• Poached Pineapple with Persimmon Sorbet and Pastry Triangles
• White Chocolate and Peppercorn lollipops (as a palate cleanser)
This was one of the most innovative restaurants I have ever been to and the food was incredible. This is designed for you to get outside your comfort zone and try things you normally wouldn’t. The portions are not huge – the idea is to try many small portions instead of filling up on a few larger meals.
Prices start at $50 for 4 courses.
