The basics

Multi-day tours of the Eyre Peninsula usually start from Adelaide and follow the coast road from Port Augusta to Port Lincoln. The Seafood Frontier Touring Route runs south from Whyalla on the east coast and offers a feast of oysters, abalone, cockles, fresh fish, and so much more. Around Baird Bay on the west coast, shark cage diving or shark “submarine” diving, whale watching, seal spotting, and scuba diving with dolphins and/or sea lions are all possible. Port Lincoln offers wildlife experiences including koalas, and it makes a great base for the peninsula in general.

How to get there

The Eyre Peninsula begins by Port Augusta, about a 192-mile (309-kilometer) drive northwest of Adelaide, with Port Lincoln a further 215 miles (346 kilometers) drive southwest. Stateliner buses connect Port Lincoln with Adelaide, and, if your carbon footprint is not a concern, there are domestic flights to Port Lincoln airport. When to get there

If whale watching is on your Eyre Peninsula itinerary, plan to visit between June and September, in South Australia’s winter and early spring. April to September is the best season to enjoy Coffin Bay oysters, although they are available all year round.
