In Ancient Rome, the Forum was the centre of the Roman Empire. Until the 4th century AD, a thousand years of decisions affecting the future of Europe were made here. When Roman soldiers were out conquering the world in the name of the Emperors, ...

The Colosseum was amazing to see in real life. But the magic of this tour was our guide Vasco. He was a champion and had so much information, so many stories and interacted with all the members of our small group so well. It was great to see the arena stage, the lower areas and the higher tiers of the Colosseum and this tour connected well to the Roman Forum next door.
I'm still amazed thinking of all the stories Vasco told us and I'm sure he had hundreds more !
I'd thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to really learn about the Colosseum and Roman Forum rather then just looking at the ruins.

Our tour guide was Franchesca, a very knowledgeable archiologist who was truly outstanding. The trip enabled you to see the major sights of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palantine Hill and took a little over three hours. The insight that Franchesca was able to provide was both amusing and very helpful in bringing to life Roman history and what life would have been like in Ancient Rome. Would recommend bringing a bottle of water and thoroughly recommend the tour

Fabrizio was an AMAZING tour guide. He explained everything extremely thoroughly and had great stories. I highly recommend this tour, it's worth the little extra money to see the upper tier and the underground chambers. It was such an incredible experience. The upper tier you can see over the Roman Forum perfectly.

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide was from Washington DC and has lived in Italy for 13 years. I wish I could remember his name because he was awesome. He was funny, extremely informative and made us want to be history buffs and do more research when we returned to our hotel. The Coliseum is spectacular and this also included a tour of the Roman Forum.

This was an outstanding tour! The underground chambers have only been opened to the public for the past three years, so to walk in the chambers that the gladiators walked sent chills down my spine! It was amazing to see the process they used in order to make animals magically appear on the Colosseum floor. It was awesome to have the various views of the arena as well. The upper tier views of the city were remarkable! Then we walked the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill. Maura, our tour guide, would show us pictures of what the city looked like thousands of years ago which helped me visualize things. I loved that you could view Julius Caesar's tomb and walk on the stones that the senators and politicians did back in the day. The view from Palatine Hill overlooking Circus Maximus was also remarkable. I can't recommend this tour high enough...I'd give it 6 stars if I could!

Amazing! We entered the Colosseum using the way gladiators would enter, onto the floor of the Colosseum. It was very special. When you entered it was a wow moment. The guide Francesca was very knowledgeable and told us all about seating arrangements and what went happened during the games. She escorted us around different parts of the Colosseum, telling us different aspects of the people who would have sat there. Be prepared as stairs are very steep. We spent about 1.5 hours in the Colosseum and then went to the Roman Forum opposite were we spent over an hour. This site was huge so it was great to have a guided tour. Francesca stimulated our imagination and explained about many of the different areas. We went into the Temple of Vesta, which I wanted to see, and she explained all about Vesta and the Vestal Virgins. We then walked up to Pallatine Hill. This was not as steep but was still a climb. Once up, the view from there was amazing. Francesca again was very informative and explained different areas and what they were.

Oh boy! This was fantastic. before we headed into the Colosseum we did an extensive walking tour of the Roman Forum. Our guide was brilliant. Talked us through all the inmportant locations and really brought the forum to life and helped us visualise what a day would look and feel like. Stepping inside the Colosseum was an experieince I'll never forget. Going below the arena floor to where the animals and slaves were held was fantastic. A must do in Rome

This tour was AMAZING! Our guide, Fabrizzio, was an archaeologist and very familiar with the Colosseum and Roman Forum. He was educational but also extremely engaging! This was the first day they were allowed to take us on the stage and it provided the most amazing views! I cannot recommend this enough. He was incredible!

I think this tour had the perfect balance of time in the underground chambers, the main arena, top tier, free time and guide of the Roman Forum. I was conscious of the extra cost of this tour but as I only plan on doing Rome once so felt the extra parts were worth the expense. It really added to the understanding the scale of the Colosseum and I enjoyed seeing it from every perspective. I liked that we were given some free time around 25-30 mins before leaving for the forum. It have me a chance to read a few signs and visit the toilet and giftshop. Be warned though, the queue for the ladies toilets was huge and went down very slowly - I wasted a lot of time here when I could have been looking around more. Next up was the forum tour which was equally impressive. At the end, the tour guide left us in the forum, free to look around more and visit the museum. This was great because we could take more photos and take the views in to our hearts content. I would recommend doing this tour early in the day if you can, then you aren't limited to time to leave. I did the Vatican in the morning and this in the afternoon - the day was way too long and very tiring. I recommend comfortable shoes for this as there is a lot of walking/standing and hardly anywhere to sit.

Is was a great tour!! Our tour guide was great and informative!!! It was so great that I will be taking this tour again with another son. It is a lot of walking. But worth it. When the tour is done you are able to tour the roman forum on your own. Highly recommend!!

What a wonderful tour. We started just down the road from the Colosseum and ended up in the centre of Rome at Piazza Navona and visited all of the sights in between. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and much more. Our guide, Raffaellea Etna, was an absolute delight with and extensive knowledge of Roman history. A bit of walking but nothing too strenuous and it went over time but that was a bonus. Highly recommended, especially first time Rome visitors.

LOVE IT! Saw more on this tour than I did just a year ago on another tour of the Roman Forum. I wish I could remember our guides name because he sure knew his history.

I did another Colosseum Tour in April and was so tired after and Roman Forum and Palatine Hill I did not get to do the Colosseum tour. This time I did the Smaller Group tour and it was more focused to the Colosseum and the levels and history. Great tour.

Our tour guide Massimo was super informative. He gave great detailed explanations of the history of Rome at the Colosseum and at the Roman forum/Palatine Hill. He had examples of the ruins and how they looked originally. The Colosseum tour guide was very informative you went in the underground chambers and up to the highest sections of the Colosseum. Our group was about 24 people, we had a few elderly on the group that found it difficult to go up and down the stairs of Colosseum and at the palatine hill as well. If you have difficulty walking please be mindful when booking your tours as I did notice that this group was having some difficulties. This tour was about 4 hours and extremely informative. I would highly recommend this tour as you do learn a lot and see a lot.

Excellent Tour. Saw virtually everything in the Colosseum top to bottom and the Roman Forum. Tour of the Colosseum was strenuous! Much work has been done to reclaim the Colosseum.

Enjoyed the tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. We did learn that water is not allowed into the Colosseum, however, empty water bottles are okay and there are places to fill them up, after you pass security. Luca was a wonderful guide who knew the history, can work the camera wonderfully and manage this small group 6 people very well. It is worth knowing that you will be walking a bit. We had an elderly couple who had to sit and wait in part of the Roman forum as the rest climbed the hill for a wonderful view of the Forum and Rome. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing the Colosseum and knowing what was it like and how they did it.

Fantastic tour, our guide was more knowledgeable than the guide The Colosseum provided. We also saw the what remains of the Roman Forum and walked up Palatine Hill. The view was amazing. Our guide studied archaeology and gave us a wonderful insight to Roman life and times.

On a wet and thundery night we were guided by Danielle through the Roman forum and the colosseum on a great tour. This is a must do tour as we as a a small group had the colosseum to ourselves at night. Danielle being an archeologist and having worked on the site provided fantastic insight into the ruins. Fantastic.

Tour inside the colosseum done by an archeologist and very informative. I really enjoyed seeing the underground chambers and imagining the scene during the time of its use. We went home and watched Gladiator as the guide had told us it was fairly historically accurate. We left the tour at the Roman Forum and wandered off on our own. Our guide was doing an OK job I think he was new but some of our fellow tourists were intolerable:-

First time using Viator based on my brother's recommendation and I am upset I didn't know about them sooner. The tour was extremely well organized and planned. Sarah N was extremely knowledgeable and took her time on the important aspects. Her stories and facts about the Colosseum and Roman Forum felt as if I was transported back in time to when the events were happening. Great tour and highly recommend it to anyone going to the Rome.

A hugely informative tour with a great guide who is an architect/archeologist and clearly loves and has such a passion for the Roman ruins. We did wait for a short time in line to get into the Colosseum, but that was a factor of the security. This tour took the group down to the lower level and it was great to see and hear all that the Colosseum has to offer. The lower part is not open to the general public, so not only do you see a portion that most cannot see, it was not crowded either. Plan on standing the entirety of the tour 3 hours, wear comfortable shoes - ones that are okay for uneven flooring and stairs. The Roman Forum portion was great also with tons of information that one could only get with a lot of research. Highly recommended.

Wonderful experience and tour. We saw the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Timing was good - we got to see everything and weren't rushed. The guide was excellent, providing good historical background to the structure and the times when it was used. She helped us to see what the Roman Forum would have been like in its day.

Our guide Chiara was lovely. She spoke English well and she gave us a very detailed history of the colosseum.
We were given access to the bottom area of the colosseum which Chiara said we were privileged as only certain tours are granted access to the lowest level. Also the lower level hardly had many people so it was great taking photos.
The tour also included the Roman Forum, so much history at both places.
Definitely recommend this tour!
