Rome is beautiful and knows it. It basks in its glorious history just inviting you to take its photograph. One of the most splendid aspects are the rooftops – all those spires and domes and jumbled, eccentric angles of apartment buildings – but how do you get up there to take your shot? Is it even possible to get up there? Well, it might cost you a bit in food or wine but it will be worth it. And nothing will beat watching the sunset over the roof of Rome. Here are a few terrace bars and restaurants worth checking out.
1. American Bar at the Hotel Forum, Via Tor Del Conti, 31. Wonderful views of the Imperial Forums and Monument of Victor Emanuel while you sip a coffee, cocktail, wine or beer. Open to the general public every day from 5pm from March to October.
2. La Terrazza Paradiso at Hotel Atlante Star, Via Giovanni Vitelleschi, 42. This small four star hotel is close to St Peter’s and has an unobstructed view of the Tiber River, Castel Sant’Angelo and the Vatican. La Terrazza has a separate entrance so there’s no need to enter the hotel. There is also a formal restaurant called Les Etoiles.
