Steam your way through California’s redwoods, visit the beach and go back in time aboard Roaring Camp Railroads. Passengers can choose between two scenic routes. The Redwood Forest Steam Train chugs through redwood groves to the summit of Bear Mountain and back. The journey takes a little over an hour roundtrip and departs from Roaring Camp in Felton.
The Santa Cruz Beach Train combines the best of two worlds. Start your roundtrip adventure from Roaring Camp in Felton or the iconic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Regardless of where your trip begins, you’ll roll through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, across a 1909 steel truss bridge and through an 1875 tunnel. Plan for a three-hour roundtrip.
Roaring Camp Railroads hosts a series of events and themed train rides that vary with the season. With choices ranging from Moonlight Dinner Parties to Ghost Trains and Civil War Battles, it’s worth checking to see what’s going on when you’re in town.
Train schedules vary day to day and season to season. The Santa Cruz Beach Train does not run during the winter, but a Santa Cruz Holiday Lights Train is offered on select days. The Redwood Forest Steam Train runs year-round but on a limited schedule during winter months. It’s about an hour-long drive from San Jose to Roaring Camp in Felton. The drive from Santa Cruz to Felton should take about 20 minutes.
