From historic landmarks and bustling food markets to panoramic views and a lively nightlife scene, Hokkaido’s biggest city has lots to offer. Here are great ways to spend 48 hours in Sapporo.
Sapporo TV Tower
1 Chome Odorinishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido, 060-0042
Take the elevator 60 seconds from the third floor to the observation deck for unobstructed, 360-degree views from 295 feet (90 meters) off the ground. On the lower floors, you’ll find an information center, shops, and restaurants. The tower is connected to the Aurora Town shopping center in the basement.
To save time at the entrance, purchase your admission ticket to the observation deck online in advance. Or, book a private trip to the observation deck after the tower closes. Many city sightseeing tours include a stop at the tower, along with other highlights such as Odori Park, the Former Government Building, and Sapporo Beer Museum.
Excellent guide, good choices for visiting in a day, we enjoyed our adventure , got us oriented for touring on our own.

Things to Know Before You Go
The Sapporo TV Tower is a must for first-time visitors to Sapporo.
The observation deck is wheelchair-accessible.
Free Wi-Fi is available at the observation deck.
How to Get There
Sapporo TV Tower is located at the eastern end of Odori Park. JR Sapporo Station, Odori Station, and Susukino are all within walking distance of the tower. Use exit 27 if arriving via the underground shopping malls.
When to Get There
The views from the tower are good at any time of the year, as long as the day is clear. For the classic daytime Sapporo city view, visit around noon, when the sun is high in the sky. Or go to watch the sun set, and stay until the city lights come on at night. Winter views are also beautiful, especially when thousands of light bulbs illuminate Odori Park.
Underground Shopping Centers
Underneath Odori Park you’ll find two shopping malls: Aurora Town (which runs parallel with the park to Sapporo TV Tower) and Pole Town (which runs perpendicular to the park, from JR Sapporo Station to Susukino). Visit the tower, then shop and dine to your heart’s content.
