1,316 Reviews

Amazing scenery, a thriving arts scene, Native American culture, and mystical forces make Sedona and Flagstaff much more than just stopping off points on the way to the Grand Canyon.

Day 1: Sedona Highlights

Spend the morning getting acquainted with the city of Sedona and its fascinating red rock surrounds. It’s a topographic rollercoaster as you take a scenic drive through Oak Creek Canyon, then up to Airport Mesa and to the Chapel of the Holy Cross, nestling right in the red rocks. Along the way you’ll hear about the mysterious healing energies of Sedona’s “vortices” and get the chance to buy Native American handcrafts. In the afternoon, go on an amazing off-road jeep safari through the high desert country of Diamondback Gulch and Grand Arroyos.

Day 2: Sedona Options

Still hankering for off-road adventures? Start in the relative cool of the morning and mix and match your choice of routes. You can recreate a spectacular old stagecoach trail, follow in the footsteps (or hoof prints) of cowboys, head for historic Soldier’s Pass, or leave the bumps behind and get back on the road for the best of Sedona scenery. You can also learn more about those “vortices” which make the area such a magnet for spiritual seekers.

Day 3: Flagstaff

Pine forests and dramatic peaks surround Flagstaff, home of the famous Lowell Observatory and gateway to the Grand Canyon. There are numerous options for day trips from here. Want to snap some stunning scenery? Experience the dazzling light and color of Antelope and Glen Canyons and Lake Powell, plus a visit to the Navajo Indian Reservation. Want to get right off the road? Take a relaxing boat trip on the Colorado River through Glen Canyon. Want to see where countless of Westerns and other films were made? Head off in the air-conditioned comfort of special sightseeing vehicles through the haunting, timeless landscape of Monument Valley, stopping at a traditional Navajo village along the way.
