DMZ

Munsan-eup, Majeong-ri,Imjingak Tourist information center

The Basics

Even with its past, the area is quite safe for travelers and is one of the most fascinating day trip options from Seoul. The DMZ can only be visited as part of an organized, guided tour, during which travelers get the chance to see the Joint Security Area (JSA), also known as Panmunjom, where the North and South met for peace talks during the war. Visitors can also see both North Korean and South Korean soldiers each guarding their respective sides of the DMZ. Other common stops on the tour include Imjingak Park, the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, Freedom Bridge, and the Dora Observatory, where it's possible to look across the border into North Korea.

Best Half Day DMZ Tour from Seoul (No Forced Shopping)
Moon was a great guide and made the experience more real for us.. Because the DMZ tours just opened up after Covid shut down, they were limiting entries to a few hundred people. So our pick up time and place were changed at the last minute, we were rushing, but it was worth it.

Private DMZ Peace Tour: 3rd Invasion Tunnel(Monorail) and Suspension Bridge
We had a wonderful time with Mr James. He explained the history and everything in the tour very well! We found him to be extremely knowledgeable, he went above and beyond to help us understand about Seoul and Korea. His knowledge about DMZ is impressive and all of us had a wonderful time. We couldn't have asked for a better guide than Mr James. ☺️

Private DMZ Tour From Seoul
Besides the same DMZ tour as everyone else he took us to the museum of “lost abductees” which we knew nothing about. Very interesting. He was very attentive to our needs, and was extremely knowledgeable but could have allowed more time for photos

Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Tour from Seoul- Hotel Pick Up & No Shopping
The only DMZ in the world, so truly a unique experience. We did have to get up quite early (picked us up at the station at 5:50am) but it was definitely worth it. We learnt so much about the history, and the tour guide Yeoni was very engaging and knowledgable. Cant recommend this enough!

Pick up was easy, then you're taken to the DMZ where you get on a large bus to the Dora observation deck , my tour operator Mr Park was very informative and even took us on an additional trip when we went to the suspension bridge, which was amazing. Great trip for the momey.

Private DMZ Peace Tour: 3rd Invasion Tunnel(Monorail) and Suspension Bridge
Paul was a terrific guide and did a fantastic job, We were picked up on time and well informed about the different sites and attractions. I would highly recommend this tour and Paul as a guide. South Korea is a wonderful place and the DMZ with its sad history is a reminder of the cost we pay to live free.

Premium Private DMZ Tour & (Suspension Bridge or N-Tower) include lunch
Great tour, DMZ is a must if going to Korea. The tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. It was a plus to have him as not many Koreans speak English and he also had good stories to add to our tour.

Korean DMZ Full-Day Tour including the War Memorial of Korea - No shopping
Really enjoyable day. We had a private guide for the war memorial of Korea ( the same as for DMZ. That day, we were the only one to choose a full day tour). She is a wonderful english speaker and really nice as well !

Korean DMZ Half-Day Tour from Seoul - No shopping
Tour guide Sadie was wonderful, navigating our stops with energy and great storytelling. We had booked the 10:30 am tour, but were asked to switch to an early morning slot the night before to ensure that we would be able to access the DMZ because of such high demand. So be prepared that you may need to wake up early if you want to do this tour. But it’s worth it!

Tommy was a fabulous tour guide with a great sense of humor. He adjusted our tour well once we found out that some locations were closed for safety reasons.

Seoul to DMZ Tour Shuttle BUS
Amazing! She was very nice with helping us find what was best for us even if it would make her lose out on extra money. That is great customer service. She made us feel like she was their to actually help us. She was excited to teach the history and she was patient.

When to Get There

Tours to the DMZ can be canceled on short notice, so it's a good idea to book for your first full day in Seoul so you have time to reschedule as needed. For the best weather, plan to visit in spring or fall. Expect high humidity and more frequent rainfall during the summer months, and dress for chilly weather in winter—temperatures tend to hover in the 20s and 30s F.

Dress to Impress at the DMZ

The DMZ has a strictly enforced dress code, partly because North Korean soldiers have been known to take photos of poorly dressed tourists to use in propaganda "proving" that other nations are too poor to afford proper clothing. Leave the ripped jeans, sandals, and halter tops at the hotel.
