Not only is the Alaska Railroad a great resource for getting around Alaska, it’s also a scenic journey allowing you to enjoy and photograph pristine Alaskan wilderness right from your seat. In fact, many consider riding the Alaska Railroad an attraction in itself, especially as the railroad offers special train journeys and day trips and even slows down when passing particularly scenic locations. Commentary is provided, and opportunities to spot wildlife like black bear, porcupines, bald eagles, moose and Dall sheep are abundant. Riders can choose to bring their own refreshments or enjoy a meal in the train’s dining car.
To make your ride a bit more luxurious upgrade to the GoldStar Service (if available), which allows you to sit on the upper level of the train for more encompassing views and a unique vantage point of the scenery. GoldStar Service riders also enjoy a private bar, a unique outdoor viewing deck, and reclining and forward-facing seats that can rotate so larger groups can sit together.
