Ernesto was fabulous. Knowledgable with a sense of the science and the poetry of the mountain. We were fetched form our hotel and driven along with one other couple up the mountain road, stopping to see a lava cave, to climb a lower crater from which Ernesto skilfully navigated our way down when the wind whipped up a frenzy. The views were fabulous, the drive exhilarating. High recommended. Ernesto, I hope to return one day.
What a fabulous day with Etna Excursions. After great communication wth Ernesto, I was picked up from my hostel in Catania to join 5 others in a modern 4WD vehicle and driven to for about an hour to the lower level of Etna. We stopped on the way to buy a Sicilian sandwich for lunch, and when we got to our destination, we were offered poles, jackets, beanies and boots if we wanted to use them. Then we started trekking up the side SE (?) side of Etna, till we reached a spot to sit and eat our sandwich, and Ernesto kindly supplied a glass or two of red wine. We then continued on, finally descending via an ash river - an experience in itself! I was with Marco's group, and he was constantly giving us information about the geology and fauna of Etna, and stopped at some great spots for photo ops. There is a cable car option running up the mountain for those who can't, or don't want to, trek but if you can, it's the only way to go. Fabulous, and I'd thoroughly recommend Etna Excursions. I'm just sorry I can't put up some of the fabulous pics.
Ernesto was an awesome guide. He was very patient. He took his time with us. We really appreciated that he picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off there at end of day. He took us to where we would have a good view of Mount Etna. he also showed us the caves that formed and took us on a hike. We also got to see the landscape of the area. He made sure that we had lunch for the day. I really enjoyed the day with Ernesto on our Mt. Etna tour.
Explore Mount Etna, the world's most active stratovolcano, on this small-group hiking tour from Catania. Travel in a 4x4 vehicle or minivan to reach a departure point for a moderate hike through Mount Etna's moon-like landscape in the Valley del Bove depression, including a lava tube exploration, and the Silvestri craters. Syracuse, Ortygia and Noto one day small group Tour from Catania
, Dec 2019
This is a lovely relaxed tour - so many interesting things to see.
Our Guide and Driver Antonio was knowledgeable , reliable, professional, friendly and kept us on time. We had good explanations of the cities we were going to visit, It is a great way to see Noto, Ortigia and Syracuse. Thank you!
Dario picked us up at our hotel and off we went - his background as a student working on his masters brought an unique perspective to the commentary . We learned about the countryside and the upcoming sites from an ecological angle, even pointing out the fossils in the rock walk before lunch as we walked to Ortygia. We loved learning about this life while we ate! I was so pleased with the passion and care he took in answering our questions . I wish the company would use a mic or a device to amplify his voice. When you sit in the last row of the van, it sometimes was difficult to hear - but he was always kind to repeat. Good choice for anyone wanting to see the ruins and then the glorious town of. Noto!
Antonio was a good driver and a personable man. The overall tour could’ve been a little better organized. We sat in the far back of the van, no other seat options, and I could not hear him most of the time. A microphone would have been great! Admissions to Syracuse teatro and some churches were not included, so bring extra cash. Guide could not go in sites with us, so we were left to figure it out on our own and in a time crunch. Snack and wine were nice, but we sat on a scruffy park bench by a concrete sidewalk, near the sea. Good history, nice towns, a good overview of the area, but overpriced tour.
UNESCO–listed Syracuse, Ortigia Island, and Noto are three of eastern Sicily’s most beautiful coastal settlements, with a history dating back to the days of the ancient Greeks. This full-day tour takes you to all three sites in one day, with round-trip travel from Catania, Taormina, and surrounding areas included. Discover Roman ruins in Nepaolis, and admire beautiful baroque architecture in Noto—with your guide on hand to bring Sicily’s history to life.
Erice and Segesta Day Trip from Palermo with Sicilian Food and Wine Tasting
One of the best day trips out of Palermo. Beyond 5-stars.
, Nov 2019
I can't say enough about this guided trip from Palermo. Our driver/guide was extremely knowledgeable and allowed us enough time to explore both locations. She also provided a name of a private driver for us in Palermo..... much, much cheaper than the white cabs. Don't hesitate to book this tour!!!!!!
Wonderful day. Perfectly organized. The driver and Guide, Marco, was a fantastic, very gentle and friendly, making this experience perfect. The food and wine testing was great too. Simply, a five star Tour.
Great tour. Guide Josephine was great and explain in details
Turned up on time at the nominated place tasty Sicilian lunch with home made wine good places to see with a great tour company I will use them again
Enhance your sightseeing experience of Sicily on an enriching full-day excursion to Erice and Segesta from Palermo. Delight in the medieval majesty of Erice, a walled town that reigns over the picturesque harbor of Trapani, and pleasure your palate with a traditional Sicilian lunch after visiting an olive oil producer. Delve into historical wonders of Segesta at the archeological site, marveling at the unfinished temple and absorbing sweeping vistas of Sicily’s sun-drenched valleys and undulating hills.
We had two guides for this trip, one of which was a studying geologist. With his help and explanation we learned a lot as we traveled through the tour. Both of our guides were fantastic, friendly and knew a great deal. A bit of helpful information is that you will be brought up to around 2000 meters by van and will do a bit of light hiking. Make sure you check the weather and dress accordingly. There were some stunning views of Mt. Etna and the surrounding areas. Definitely make this tour a part of your trip.
Fun and interesting trip up the Etna slopes. Very well-organised! Small group (eight people) and a knowledgable, engaged guide. Tour isn't too long or exhausting and gives a good impression of mount Etna's might
They picked me up at the hotel on time. Itbwqs a 2 minivan tour. The guide talked to us via walkie talkie. Daniele was really funny. Melania was our driver, she speaks perfect english, french. The Etna is impressive... we walked an hour on an easy trail over lava trails.. (thabks god it was easy. )Up there is really chilly... take warm clothes and long trousers. With a good pair of gym shoes is enough. It is a must do in Catania.
Located on the island of Sicily, Mt Etna is the tallest active volcano in Europe. Explore its different aspects on this active tour from Catania that includes hiking up the volcano along a trail to the inner crater. See lava flows, learn about the geological history of the volcano, admire panoramic views and hike into a lava cave.
The two young ladies that were our guides, were charming. I have been on many Food Tours throughout Sicily and Italy. I am sorry to say this was not one of the best. I understand it is not Rome, but the food presentations were truly poor.
We love food tours and this one did not disappoint. Anna was very informative and passionate about the food of Catania and helped us to get our bearings on our first day. Thank you Anna, highly recommended
OUr guide, Ana, was very knowledgeable and personable throughout. There were only 7 of us plus Ana and everyone got on and shared info etc. My husband and I have holidayed in Italy and Sicily for years now and love food tours but this one is the best we have ever been on. We even went back to two of the places afterwards during the remainder of our stay in Catania. Different foods and drinks tried - all very good quality. Definitely would recomend this tour.
Taste your way through the bustling markets and piazzas of Catania on a mouth-watering, half-day culinary tour. Visit fish markets, bakeries, bars and stalls to sample the best Sicilian street food with a local guide. Try regional specialties like ‘arancini’ (stuffed fried rice balls), fizzy drinks, ‘cipollata’ (bacon-wrapped onions), ‘zibibbio’ wine and decadent cannoli. Learn what makes Sicilian cuisine unique from the rest of Italy while discovering some of Catania’s cultural treasures.
Taormina and Castelmola from Messina Small Group Tour
, Oct 2019
Due to a miscommunication by the company of the pick up time, we missed the beginning of the tour. When we met up with the rest of the people the areas we visited were very scenic. Unfortunately, we did not have as much time in Taormina as we should have. Other than that the tour was good.
Make the most of your time in Sicily on this immersive, small-group shore excursion. Over the course of just half a day, you’ll venture to Taormina (and will discover top landmarks like its Greek amphitheater), will visit the hilltop village of Castelmola (renowned for its impeccable scenery), and will finish with a walking tour of Messina’s historical city center. Port pickup and drop-off, and round-trip minivan transit, make logistics seamless and stress-free.
We use these every time we visit Italy ,such a great idea
We usually stay on for the full tour of the city to get our bearings then go round again to get off to explore something that’s caught our eye
Great idea , the big red hop on hop off bus are the best compared to other company’s we have found
Palermo was no exception 👍🏻
See the highlights of Palermo with a hop-on hop-off bus tour, exploring at your own pace. Get a view of the city’s top attractions from the top of a double-decker bus, including sights like the Quattro Canti, Vucciria Market and the Teatro Massimo – one of Italy's most famous opera houses. Enjoy audio commentary during the tour.
Yes! No Mafia makes a solid case for community action against criminal activity ... the tour was very enlightening.
, Oct 2019
Yes! It was a great tour. It went beyond the movie versions of the Mafia and told the stories from a Sicilians perspective. The “No mafia” movement began with a small committed group who stood up to the fear of criminal activity ... and the community began to protest the criminal activities, when the socio-political events of the day strengthen the anti-mafia effort.
Explore Palermo’s key sights on foot on this walking tour of the Sicilian capital. Meet your guide in a convenient location in central Palermo, and set off. Visit popular landmarks ranging from the Palermo Cathedral and Palazzo Pretorio to the Massimo Theater. Learn about the city’s long entanglement with the mafia, and meet the shopkeepers and other individuals who have pioneered a local anti-mafia movement.
Godfather donkeys tour and a medieval village of Savoca between art and culture
Don’t miss out
, Oct 2019
So much fun!!! Salvo picked us up at the ship terminal and took us to the small town of Sacova which is also his hometown. Climbed up on 2 Sicilian donkeys, Gina and Katarina, along with guide dog Molly who rode along with us. Explored the village, enjoyed Spritzs and saw many of the sites where Godfather 2 was filmed. Certainly something different from another small town tour. Salvo was the most excellent host. Don’t need to be know how to ride to enjoy
My sister and I (both retirees) were really looking forward to this tour and we weren't disappointed! The donkeys are gentle, well trained and and a pretty smooth ride. The village of Savoca, high in the hills, with views of the sea and on a clear day Etna Volcano is picturesque, romantic and a little mysterious. Our guide Salvo's knowledge extended well beyond the infamous Godfather sites as he has a very personal attachment to the village past and present. Along the way we stopped for a granita, coffee and brioche and were treated to a refreshing Aperol spritz. Just a great day with Salvo and his darling little Molly.
Experience the beauty of eastern Sicily on a donkey ride through the medieval village of Savoca. Traverse pine forests atop your donkey and visit churches, catacombs, the set of ‘The Godfather’ film, and ancient ruins. Along the way, sample local treats like granita, pistachios, olive oil, and almond wine to get a taste of Sicily’s gourmet products.
We had a fantastic time! Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and a good driver. Half way trough the tour a beautiful storm moved in! But it turned out to be more interesting to watch and photograph than a sunset. What an unexpected suprise!
Mount Etna is one of the most striking natural features in Sicily, and with this tour you can experience both its beauty and geology. Set off from Catania, stopping at an organic farm on the mountain slopes to sample honey, wine, olive oil, and other specialties. Afterwards, continue up to the Valle del Bove; explore the volcanic craters and a lava cave before ending at a scenic overlook to enjoy the sunset.

Fantastic Palermo Tour
, Sep 2019
Despite a rainy day in Palermo, we had a truly awesome tour and would never have experienced the city this way had we just went out on our own. Fabrizio was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable in all things historical. This is a tour packed with information and we learned a ton about the history, foods and culture in Palermo. I would highly recommend this specific walking tour!

New scooters at ancient temples
, Nov 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed riding the scooters at the Valley of the Temples. We're both 60-ish, and we handled the scooters just fine. It made it much easier to tour the whole area. Our guide spoke English very well, and was very informative and entertaining. We would definitely recommend this tour.

See Mount Etna, Europe’s highest, active volcano during this full-day, guided tour that includes cultural stops along the way. On route to the top, experience Italian food and wine at a local farm and visit the hilltop town of Taormina.
Interesting, informative and wonderful experience. Hard to describe the sensation of being so high and hearing the wind whistle throughout the walk - you just gotta go! Pack lunch- whatever you bring tastes even better eating outdoors and after the hardest part.
Wear sturdy boots/ otherwise you'll have to rent theirs (only 5 E) pack lightweight gloves to help with hanging onto lava rock when needed for balance.
great tour with great Guide's but there is a caveat
, Oct 2019
well organized tour, Guide's were great and fulfilled our expectations. our Guide for the english party expalined a lot and gave us a good impression about the Etna history. But there is a caveat as the tour description tells an excursion to the top of Mount Etna 3300 meters...well...since last eruption in July 2019 the top of mount Etna is closed due to constant activity. We got a whatsapp at evening before the tour - and after free cancelation deadline - telling because of explosions we go as high as possible: 3000m
in my opinion this is not fair to the customers offering a tour to 3300m by knowing the area is closed and just sending a note such short before the tour. we passed a "road closed" barrier with the comment being kind of illegal on track now. And that barrier lasted not since a day...
@Guide Vulcanologiche Etna Nord: be fair and inform
@any interessed: inform about accessibility to / activity of Etna
Most Mt. Etna excursions stop at the Silvestri Craters on the lava-covered slopes, but with this exclusive tour you can reach the top of Europe’s highest active volcano with a volcanologist guide. Take a cable car and off-road vehicle to Torre del Filosofo and then continue on foot about a mile (2 kilometers) to the summit craters. Learn about the volcano’s history from your guide and enjoy sweeping views over the coastline.
