This tour was amazing and definitely the highlight of my time in New Zealand, and especially Queenstown- totally worth the money.
I had originally booked for a Monday morning but it was canceled due to weather and re-booked for Tuesday afternoon, which only required some slight shuffling of my plans. The team was very communicative via email regarding the weather cancellation and rescheduling. However, if you're limited on time, you might want to opt for a driving tour to the Sound. With unpredictable weather, this trip isn't 100% confirmed until 15 minutes before departure, which doesn't really provide enough time to find alternate same-day options last minute, especially since the drive is so much longer. I would have hated to have missed Milford Sound completely and luckily was flexible with my time.
This is worth every penny. The views you get from the flight are indescribable. You get to see varied landscapes and learn about New Zealand history and environment from your talented, courteous pilots. The cruise is unlike anything I've done either, getting up close to waterfalls, fur seals, and brilliant mountains beside the fjord. Do it.
The glacial waters, soaring cliffs, and thundering waterfalls of Milford Sound are spectacular from all angles, and this half-day tour takes in all the highlights. Enjoy thrilling aerial views of the Fiordland National Park on a round-trip flight from Queenstown, and marvel at Mitre Peak, Bowen Falls, and Mount Pembroke on a scenic Milford Sound cruise. Hotel pickup and drop-off is included.
This was a fantastic experience! This was a bit of a drive but our tour guide Grant was fantastic and was so knowledgeable about the area. Milford sound was beautiful but we also had the opportunity to stop multiple times along the way to see other beautiful parts of Fjordland National Park and even got to see some sites where Lord of the Rings was filmed!
We had a nice sunny day which made the experience even better. Your guide was knowledgeable and very accomadating. The staff on board was also very knowledgeable. They were extremely helpful avnd made sure all your individual needs were met. I would recommend this cruise to anyone. The intimacy of the trip was quite appart as compared to the large your groups. This company truly made the experience individualized for everyone on the van and boat.
Arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand, Milford Sound offers a sweeping landscape of jagged snow-capped mountains, shimmering fjords and lakes, towering waterfalls and emerald greenery. Travel with a small group by coach from Queenstown to Fiordland National Park to explore this lush wilderness, including a boat cruise on the Milford Sound. You also see The Remarkables mountain range, Lake Wakatipu—New Zealand's longest lake, and Lake Te Anau—the South Island’s the largest lake.

If you never flew a small plane like this Cessna 208B, you have to know that flying in the mountains is an adrenaline experience as well. But it is definitely worths it! The mountains are magnificent, and Milford Sound is miraculous.
The service is very well organized, the personal is friendly and supportive. Highly recommended experience!

Milford Sound Fly, Cruise and Helicopter Tour from Queenstown
Saving time was worth every doillar
, Jan 2020
We wanted to skip the 11 hour bus ride and were willing to pay some extra and add to the experience. We should have paid more ... the best part of this day was the helicopter tour and landing on a glacier ... the pictures, experience and views were priceless. It almost made Milford Sound a secondary thought. The cruise was nice and we saw a lot of waterfalls, wildlife and great views as well. The flight home just was icing on the cake as we got another perspective of the beautiful area we were in.
We had a wonderful chopper/cruise/fixed wing tour out to Milford Sound. The team at the base were great in getting us checked in and on our way.
Perfect weather which allowed us a snow landing. Magnificent scenery and our pilots were great, with ongoing commentary of what lay beneath us. The cruise was also excellent with all members of the crew very friendly and happy to engage and share their knowledge of Milford Sound.
What a wonderful experience! Pick up was prompt, the whole check in was easy and stress free.
The plane pilot was friendly and pointed out points of interest.
The cruise was beautiful and then the helicopter ride home was the highlight.
Worth every dollar!

Dinner at Walter Peak High Country Farm and Cruise from Queenstown
, Feb 2020
Comfortable ride on SSEarnslaw through the pouring rain and swollen lake. Great to see the stoker's and giant engines in action. Very majestic.
BBQ is a modest description of the superb spread we were treated to. Excellent choices from veggies, fish, meat, seafood, salads, desserts and sweets tray. The best meat we have had in a long while.. Cooked to perfection.
Staff attentive, friendly and informative.
Stunning setting overlooking the lake to watch the Earnslaw leave and return. Despite the poor weather and flooding this was a magical experience.
Board the TSS "Earnslaw," a vintage steamship, for an evening cruise on Queenstown’s scenic Lake Wakatipu. Arriving at Walter Peak High Country Farm, you’re treated to a sumptuous barbecue dinner at the Colonel’s Homestead. Sink your teeth into roasted meats and seafood, homemade desserts, and a New Zealand cheeseboard. After dinner, see farm demonstrations or purchase a drink and simply relax in the bar.
The trip and also the guide were excellent. We had very good weather fortunately. The length of the trip was pretty good actually it was longer than that we expected. All in all we were very satisfied.
Trip was cancelled due to weather. The torrential rain coupled with thunder and lightning meant all activities cancelled. Franj Joseph Staff were great and we were offered lots of alternatives. Waiting to do trip in Queenstown.
Worth Spending the money. Only downfall was the hike hasnt been tracked in 5 days so the guide had to pick axe a clearer pathway for hiking groups which meant we were stopping every few steps to wait for him. It was frustrating. Suggest another guide performs this instead of the guide for the group as it ruins the experience. Apart from that the trip with the helicopter was great and the ice cave worth the trip all by itself. Its not a hard hike and can be done by most able people. Thanks crew.
On this Franz Josef Glacier helicopter tour and hike, land atop the glacier and explore ice caves and pinnacles with a small group. Soar above New Zealand’s Southern Alps during a scenic flight, then grab your crampons and make your way through dramatic ice formations during a moderately difficult hike. Private tour of Dunedin, gardens, and coastal train ride
, Jan 2020
We were the only ones to book this fantastic tour. It was so neat; having a private driver all day! We shared a lot in common with our guide. Especially the love of the country, gardens and people.
The train ride along the coast was delightful. We ate on the train. Best coffee.
Depot was wonderful!

Half-Day Milford Helicopter Flight and Cruise from Queenstown
Do. Not. Miss.
, Jan 2020
Whenever we leave a destination our motto has been NOT to say these words: “I wish I had done that!” I’ve been in (and out) of helicopters many many times. Mostly getting paid to do so by Uncle Sam. This was a topper. You often hear people say “that will take your breath away”. This actually does. Our young NZ pilot Jeremy was absolutely first class. The right mix of area knowledge, care and attention to detail, and comfortable interaction with the passengers. We were lucky to fly in the “Maserati” (his words) of the Queenstown fleet. Getting to Milford Sound requires extreme luck weather wise. Out of 100 days, maybe 25-30 days the choppers get up. Of that 30, 60% stop short of the Sound and get a trip rebate. We were actually delayed twice before takeoff and odds were 50/50 the ceiling around Milford would clear. This is an extraordinarily safe undertaking. The clouds cleared and the ship ride up the sound after arriving, while gorgeous almost seemed anticlimactic. Stopping and standing on a Glacier is not something you’d do everyday. Jeremys piloting was so effortless you could barely be concerned as the helicopter climber the glacier face and dipped down the opposite side. Too bad Viator won’t attach videos I think we all took marketing productions. Just a word of warning: don’t leave Queenstown and say : “I wish I had done that!”
Excellent from start to finish.
Far exceeded my expectations, the helicopter pilot's experience made for a thrilling and informative trip.
Milford Sound was beautiful, we were lucky enought to see some dolphins too.
I would highly recommend this trip.
We did the Milford Sound Helicopter and cruise and it was one of the best experiences of our lives! From pick up at our hotel to drop off back in town everything was spot on! The team were super friendly and helpful when we needed to change our booking and on the day. Our pilot was Luke and he was brilliant! The flight itself was just unbelievable, we were initially lost for words! Luke was very knowledgable and gave us lots of commentary on the area. Landing on top of a mountain in the snow was definitely an experience to remember. The whole flight was very smooth. There is a fair cost involved but it is worth every cent. Can't recommend it highly enough and I would absolutely do it again! Many thanks to Luke and the team!
Located in the heart of Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound forms part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. Explore the stunning fiord by air and water during a half-day excursion. The exhilarating, round-trip helicopter flight from Queenstown includes a glacier landing on Mt. Tutoko. Perhaps spot dolphins, seals, and penguins during an unforgettable cruise.
Absolutely incredible experience. The scenary was fantastic all the way from Manapour to the mouth of the point where the the Sound enters the sea. The light rain that we had on part of the journey did not spoil the experience. Keep up the great work Real Journeys.
This was a fabulous experience, well organised, excellent guides and transport. Of course, the scenery was the highlight, spectacular! The highlight was when they stopped the boat in a quiet spot and asked the passengers to be silent for a few minutes. It was a very special few minutes of peace and tranquillity.
Embark on a cruise of Doubtful Sound in New Zealand, starting from Te Anau or Manapouri. Travel by coach to Manapouri Lake for a short boat ride, followed by a bus trip over Wilmot Pass. En route, stop for alpine views of the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park, before taking in the dramatic landscapes, soaring peaks, and wildlife of Doubtful Sound.
Explore Fiordland National Park's Doubtful Sound on this full-day cruise from Manapouri. Aboard a luxury catamaran, take in the scenery and keep an eye out for fur seals, bottlenose dolphins, and crested and little blue penguins while listening to commentary from your naturalist guide.
Shotover River Extreme Jet Boat Ride from Queenstown
Very fast and close to rocks :)
, Jan 2020
Perfectly organized service on a spectacular river. The hall of fame is imposing, but even more impressive that our jet boat driver turned to be not only an excellent guide and a very nice guy but an Olympic champion as well!
Take a jet boat ride on the Shotover River during an extreme ride, and make use of transport from Queenstown. Experience adrenaline-fueled fun as the jet boat skims the water’s surface at high speed and fishtails into 360-degree spins. Hold on tight as the captain maneuvers the jet boat over rapids and through narrow canyons during one heart-pounding adventure you won’t soon forget.
Akaroa Shore Excursion: Banks Peninsula and Christchurch City Sights Tour
Long day on a bus
, Feb 2020
We were on a 50 passenger bus, so that eliminates the opportunity to ask questions. it was a long day of driving to see Christchurch, but I wanted to go there, so I don't know how it could have been otherwise - except others on our ship saw Christchurch AND stopped to see a sheep shearing and dogs working sheep. I was envious of them. We saw all that was advertised in the tour and it was very good.
Viator gave us a refund due to not stopping at this port from our cruise trip
, Feb 2020
We were not able to go on this tour due to the cruise ship not stopping because of the weather. I called Viator when we got home from our trip for a refund and it was credited quickly with no problem. Thank you Viator!
Akaroa is a quiet idyllic little port was that the gateway for our excursion to Christchurch. It was not our destination but we still enjoyed the beauty and serenity it had to offer, brief as our stay was. Our journey to Christchurch was led by guide and driver Scotty who warned us that he enjoyed talking and had a lot to say. That he did and he was well worth listening to. We were given an overview of the land, the people and history of the region. Christchurch was an incredible place to visit, well on its way to recovering from the earthquake devastation of 2010. The botanical gardens were magnificent and the city and people a great place to experience.
Travel from Akaroa Harbour on this shore excursion through the Banks Peninsula to Christchurch, whose city center was devastated by the 2011 earthquake. Drive past city landmarks in the old CBD and stroll the Christchurch Botanic Gardens with a knowledgeable guide. En route, take in the scenic splendor of the Southern Alps and the Canterbury Region.
Milford Sound Coach Tour with Lunch from Queenstown
, Jan 2020
We had a marvellous time on our Milford Sound tour. So glad we could sit back on the bus and enjoy the driver’s commentary. We wouldn’t have learned as much about the area if we had driven ourself. And the boat tour was tremendous. Way beyond expectations. Such a great boat with so much room to move around and see the sights from different vantage points. I highly recommend this tour!
A wonderful visit to Milford sound via 'Graylines Coaches' Coach Captain Singh was a wealth of information with his commentary and made several scenic stops along the way to break up 4 hours of travel each way. Brilliant, picturesque and exciting day with the tour group.
Upon reaching Milford Sound, board a luxurious catamaran. Peer through panoramic windows of a luxury coach while you travel through the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park with a guide, before a memorable sightseeing cruise by Mitre Peak and the magnificent cliff-side waterfalls of Milford Sound.
Incredible half day trip. The flights were the highlights of the day and the views of the mountains, lakes and glaciers were awesome. Loved the approach and landing into Milford Sound. The cruise was pleasant and a nice interlude before the return flight. I’ve never travelled in a 6 seater Cessna before and I’m quite an anxious flyer but so glad we did it. George, as are all the pilots, was a superb, safe and extremely competent pilot and a very nice guy, to boot. Large sum of money for us to outlay but so glad we did it. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. My 11 year old daughter loved it. Be sure to book early in your trip to the area as weather can cause cancellations and so wise to leave some time later in your itinerary to rebook, if necessary. Big thanks to everyone at Southern Alps Air for an unforgettable day.

This was the most amazing excursion! The pilot and guide were incredible. We hiked on the glacier for a good bit of time and Chris got us up close and personal with beautiful blue crevasses and other cool ice formations! Don't miss this!

We are very happy with our Milford Sound tour! Everyone was so pleasant, even when we accidentally got into the wrong company's pick-up van at 7am from our hotel -- the company just sent another van to pick us up! The flights there and back were very smooth, the length of time of the cruise was just right, and we were able to purchase the buffet breakfast on the boat (I'd recommend bringing your own snacks, too, though). And this tour didn't feel too crowded or commercial. Highly recommend!
I was a bit apprehensive initially whether to go for this trip or not but this turned out to be the best part of our New Zealand trip. A must do for everyone. The views are amazing from the top as you are flying in the mountains with snow covered peaks on your side and clear water lakes below. Must do for everyone.
Take in the vast scale of Milford Sound from the air and water with a half-day trip that includes round-trip flights and a catamaran cruise. You’ll board a small plane that accommodates up to 7 passengers, lift off above the ridges and lakes of Fiordland National Park, then cruise Milford Sound all the way to the Tasman Sea. Watch for fur seals and penguins, and pass through the mists of Stirling Falls before meeting the pilot for the return trip to Queenstown.
Though not as adrenaline-packed as the Olympic sport, the Queenstown luge winds downhill with stunning 220-degree views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range beyond. Ride the Skyline Gondola up to the top of Bob’s Peak where you’ll experience the Skyline Luge Queenstown on five rides — sure to satisfy any thrill-seeker. The Blue Track is a leisurely ride with a gentle gradient, easy bends, tunnels and dips. The Red Track has a steeper gradient and is a more adventurous ride with the thrill of banked corners, tunnels, dippers and cuttings.
I had only one day to see CHristchurch and so glad I picked the grand tour. Our bus driver, Tony, was wonderful. He was knowledgeable and very friendly, as were the other guides and assistants on this tour. Though there were but three of us booked on the trip, the trip did not cancel, which was amazing in itself. We saw the city via bus, sky gondola, tram, punt ( a very special little boat ride) and shuttle in the botanical gardens. Warm, clear weather added to the experience. I would highly recommend this tour!
Enjoyed the pickup at my hotel by Annette. You can skip the journey through time at the gondola and spend more time hiking outside or getting a relaxing snack. Lunch was very good at Mona Vale. The Hop on Hop off tram has live guides, so you can ask questions and get customized narrative. Some guides are better than others, so hop off and explore and maybe you'll get a better one on the next tram. The wait between trams isn't too long.
Spend your time in Christchurch with tickets and transport to four top attractions. Enjoy a punt ride down the Avon River, a shuttle tour of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, a Christchurch Gondola ride to the Port Hills, and an independent hop-on hop-off tour of the city center aboard the Christchurch Tram. Visit the affluent coastal suburbs of Sumner and Redcliffs, or hop off at any of the 17 stops that showcase the highlights of New Zealand’s second-largest city.
Milford Sound Nature Cruise from Queenstown, Te Anau or Milford Sound
, Jan 2020
Fabulous trip. Take a jacket, it can be cold even in summer. Only issue, there is only one road in and one road out. There was an accident in the tunnel so our tour couldn’t get out. We opted for the flight back to Queenstown. Best option! I didn’t find our tour guide Deano knowledgeable but when we were stranded at Milford Sound, he was so experienced and knew what to do.
Free taxi brought us to meeting point from hotel. Easy check in process. Friendly, kind, and safe tour bus driver. Comfortable bus-don’t forget to pack a lunch to save some $$! Boat allowed for indoor/outdoor experience per customer
preference-but go outside! And dress for wind/cold on the water.
Travel to the Tasman Sea on a Milford Sound cruise aboard the ‘Milford Mariner’, 'Milford Sinbad', or ‘Milford Wanderer.’ Pass by the world-renowned Mitre Peak and drift alongside rushing waterfalls as you search for wildlife including New Zealand fur seals, dolphins, and Fiordland-crested penguins. An onboard nature specialist provides expert commentary. Hotel pickup and drop-off are available from Milford Sound, Queenstown, and Te Anau by luxury coach.
Overall, it was a very nice afternoon. Lunch was delicious. Janet, the driver, was very nice and explained a lot about christchurch and surrounding areas.
I only rated it with 4 stars because I was hoping the people doing the tastings would explain a little about the wine which they didn’t except for Waipara Hills. Despite that, great experience to get to know New Zealand wines!
Visit four boutique wineries of North Canterbury on a half-day wine-tasting tour with optional lunch. Departing Christchurch, you’ll taste a quality selection of wines in the up-and-coming Waipara wine region, including stops at Pegasus Bay, Waipara Hills, Torlesse Wines and Waipara Springs. Learn from a knowledgeable guide about Waipara’s unique terroir as you sip a range of superior reds and whites.
