Puli
Puli is a city in the Nantou County in central Taiwan. It’s a popular stop-off point for those heading on to places like Mt. Hehuan, the Taroko Gorge, and Sun Moon Lake. Others come to visit the city’s impressive Chung Tai Chan Monastery – designed by C.Y. Lee (the architect of Taipei 101). The building of this elaborate, towering monastery is said to have cost in the region of US $110 million.

Puli enjoys a pleasant climate, characterized by short and relatively dry winters followed by cool summers. Although severely damaged in the 1999 earthquake, the town has since been rebuilt and is well-known in its own right for the pure local spring water it produces, which is sold in bottles at supermarkets all across Taiwan. Puli is also known for its production of wine.

Practical Info

Although Puli is not on any railway routes, you can make the journey by train by alighting at Taichung and taking the Nantou Bus or the Sun Moon Lake Shuttle Bus from here.
